Default Oberera - balloon

Hey y'all, has anyone heard of the Oberera (spell check) temporary balloon they stick in your stomach for 6 months ?

It's for people who are over weight but not morbidly obese. I am clinically obese of you use the bmi chart, I am 5 foot 7 and weigh 179 pounds, and I am just in the lower end of being allowed to get it.

Basically it's day surgery and they place a balloon in your stomach via your throat and fill it wil saline, it acts as a mini lap band i guess, you can lose up to 20-30kgs !!

Problem is it costs $6000 and I don't have any money, I was contemplating
getting a bank loan so I could get it. Imagine loosing 20 kgs.

I think that all my problems would be solved !! -please note I know that is a false statement.

I would love to hear from anyone who has it.

If I am reading your stats correctly, you want to lose 29 pounds. I think that is a very expensive way to lose weight. I think you can lose 29 pounds without going to such extremes. I have never heard of this procedure and I wouldn't want to try it,myself.

I've heard of the gastric balloon before. My first reaction: why would you want something so temporary? I've seen people have to have lap bands removed due to complications, and they often regain their weight. I would think patients would be very likely to regain the weight once the balloon is removed.

Honestly, I would not consider any sort of surgery at your height/weight/BMI. I'm about an inch and a half shorter than you and was ECSTATIC happy to be at 175 pounds and certainly wouldn't let anyone operate on me to get down below that. I could think of lots better ways to spend $6k!

Hi,

Yeah you are both right, I am just struggling to do it alone that is all. I thought that having this extra help would be beneficial for me.

Thanks for the help

Sophie, first you have to learn why are you gaining weight though? Are you eating too much? Would an Overeaters or TOPs group behoove you? Is it mental and emotional issues? Whatever food plan you do follow, I'd recommend Beck Diet Solution because that might give you the mental exercises to keep trucking on your food/exercise plans.

Remember oberera would be a tool, a very temporary tool at that, and after it's removed will you be able to withstand temptation? If you need support, join a group here on 3FC. 3FC is amazing motivation and support. You can do this no matter what you decide!

I've done it. If its the one I think you're talking about (they insert a black rubber like balloon into your stomach and inflate it.) It did absolutely NOTHING for me and my sister. Instead all it did was it made me aware of the food in my stomach (every burp was a taste of rotten food. It made me loathe boiled eggs cause it tasted exactly like that in your mouth.)

I didn't lose, I may have gained (can't remember) and the few weeks after surgery was pure misery since your body feels like it constantly wants to vomit the foreign object out. I still remember the the days where my sister and I would sit watching tv with a designated 'vomit bucket' next to each of us!

The Beck Diet Solution is cognitive behavior theraphy. It is very successful at teaching why you eat the way you do and how to correct it. There is a forum on here where they post. It works with any diet.
