Question Dizziness and Lightheaded

I am five months out from my Gastric Sleeve surgery. I have lost 114lbs. I am taking all my vitamins and getting my recommended protein. For the last two weeks, I have been having spells of dizziness and feeling faint. My next doctor appointment is coming soon so I will discuss this with my doc but I was wondering if anyone else experienced these feelings. I have been checking my blood pressure just to make sure it is good. I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this.

are you on any medication? it's possible that you need an adjustiment. you've lost a HUGE amount of weight in a very short time - there could be a lot of things going on here.

I've thought about that. The only medication I'm on is Synthroid for hypothyroidism. I wondered if an incorrect amount would make me dizzy.

yep!!!! make sure you get your thyroid function checked next time you see a doc. the massive, fast weight loss can do truly strange things to your thyroid. in fact, it wouldn't be a bad idea to call your primary care NOW. why suffer?

I had a time keeping my potassium up and it made me dizzy and weak feeling...especailly when I exercised. I solved the problem by drinking G2 or watered down reg. Gaterade (straight gaterade makes me dump). Could be that or B12 or other B's. Check with your dr.

In addition to what others have already mentioned, these could possibly be symptoms of hypoglycemia, which is not uncommon after RNY. Just add it to the list of things to ask your doctor about at your next appointment!

I have the same thing, I actually feel as if I am about to black out, often when I stand up. For me it turned out to be dehydration as well as the weight loss. My doc said my blood vessels are used to the higher weight so they over compensate when i stand up suddenly. that and the not enough water thing are why I get faint.

I thought maybe it might be due to dehydration. I drink water all day long but I also am a sweater. I hate that! I keep hoping that when I lose more weight I will not sweat as much. I've been real careful about getting all my fluids, water mostly with some G2 when I exercise or sweat a lot. I'm planning on asking Doc about it for sure.

I agree with the rest of the ladies. Check your thyroid. It is amazing how easily weight loss affects it. I. as well, had a lot of dizzyness and it turned out I also got hypoglycaemic after the wls.

Update: I went to see my doc for my six month appt. It turns out that my iron was very low and my calcium was very low. I have been taking my vitamins as recommended but apparently needed to up my dosages. They doubled my iron (from 29 to 60) and put me on an extra heavy dosage of calcium. She said the low iron was most likely the culprit for the dizziness.

Glad you at least have some answers. If the increased dosage of iron doesn't help much, you could try a different type of iron. Are you taking vitamin C along with your iron? That will help the iron break down and be more easily absorbed since your smaller tummy has less acid, and iron likes an acidic environment.

Also, make sure you're not taking too much calcium at one time - the body can only absorb about 500-600mg at once, so you need to spread your doses out throughout the day. Keep us posted!

She didn't say I was anemic. And I am having to be super careful with timing of my vitamins. Since I'm taking the extra iron and super charged calcium I have to be on an eating schedule too. I am taking extra Vit C as well. Hoping all goes well!

Glad to hear your Dr. was able to pin point the problem. Hope you feel much better. Wow, I have been going through this dizzy black out spells myself. I have cut down my workout routine because I don't have energy. I had my thyroid checked and my other nutrient levels and they were fine. I was haivng some problem getting my water in...I am so glad I read this post.
