How to get around insurance

  • Hey guys
How do you get around the insurance company if your medical insurance policy states it will not cover any weight loss surgery
  • You can't if it's in the policy.
  • If your policy says it won't pay, it won't pay. Most hospitals know this, and will set up payment plans for you. Or, if you are willing, you can change your insurance policy to one that will cover... but you might pay more $$$ in the long run. Plus, most insurance policies will only pay for weight loss surgery as a last option. For example, my insurance policy will pay for weight loss surgery, but I first need to prove I've seen a nutritionist, received counseling, and have seen a doctor for weight related problems for one year before they will CONSIDER paying for it. But like I said, with all of the co-pays, medicine, and uncovered appointments... you might be paying more in the long run.
  • Can you tell us the exact wording of the exclusion? I've seen some people fight and win when a policy states it will not cover any treatments for obesity. MORBID obesity is not the same thing. So there may be loopholes - post the statement, and we can try to dig into it!
