Question about dizzy spells

  • Have any of you had or have dizziness after going from sitting to standing? I've had episodes of this since getting below 200 pds, but Sunday I actually fainted which I had never done before. I was just curious if this maybe a side effect from WLS.
    Thanks,Gina
  • I have, don't really know what caused it, but it finally went away. Sometimes not enough fluid can cause it.
  • A couple of things come to mind..

    1. Have blood work done (call your lapband doc and mention this to him).
    2. Allergies... have your ears checked.
    3. Vertigo.

    Get checked out asap...
  • and let's add a few more possibilities

    1. orthostatic hypotension - and this means that when you stand up, your blood pressure drops and you feel dizzy and might faint. sound familiar? there are a lot of causes, but some of the ones to consider are dehydration, and being on too much blood pressure medication [so if your BP has dropped since your surgery and you're still taking medication - RUN to your doc]

    2. watch your protein intake - make sure that you're getting enough to keep you on your feet.

this is NOT generally a side effect of the WLS itself, but since you've lost so much weight in such a short time, your body may be adjusting - in a healthy way.

so, make an appt with your doc - probably your primary care doc rather than your surgeon. and go get checked. and then LET US KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!!
  • Thanks you guy's I'll keep you posted.

I don't think it's anything serious I think it's more with my body adjusting to the weightloss.

I hope it goes away on it's own like it did for Annie cause when I fainted I broke my toe
I'm also taking my time getting up from now on
  • honey - please go see the doc. even if it's NOTHING, the fact that you're fainting is NOT GOOD. what happens if you break something more serious than a toe? or even - heaven forbid - you hit your head on something?

    please call your doc.
  • Hi Jiffy,
I have an appt for friday. So far so good no more fainting since sunday , but I will update after appt I promise. You're so sweet,I'm sure it's nothing.

  • I had this rather recently (although not with WLS.) Aside from the other suggestions, it could also very well also be dehydration.
  • i'm voting for the blood pressure dropping.... that's always my issue.
  • There are lots of thing that it could be. If you think it is a blood pressure drop, then get up a whole lot slower until you see the doctor. My son was a real skinny tall boy and he would get up to fast and stagger around like a drunk and end up bashing his head good a couple of times. Make sure you are getting the protein and the WATER, RETAW, water, water in.
  • I 2nd what Jiffy said... we can't make a diagnosis for you so its best to see your doctor (which I know you are )

Sorry, me being a mama hen I just had to say that LOL good luck !!!
