Getting WLS

  • My doctor will not approve of me getting WLS. How would one go about finding a doctor that was willing to help you? Are there special bariatric doctors that you can go to without a referral?
  • Are there specific reasons for not approving you? Usually the Dr. has good reason. Maybe you are high risk? Asking for a 2nd opinion wont hurt but i wouldnt search all over for just one Dr. that will say yes. Did he just say no and thats or explain why your arent a good candidate?
  • It really boils down to your insurance and what they require you to do, so I would check with them first.

2nd opinion is a good way to go.

  • I agree that a second opinion would be a good idea. If the doctor doesn't agree with you having the surgery, it is possible that your insurance won't cover it either. Most of the time, insurance companies need documented proof that you have certain medical conditions, etc., and if your doc won't agree to it, it's unlikely that your insurance will approve it anyway.

I'd definitely seek another opinion if you think WLS is right for you!
