I have only been on my weight loss journey since May of this year. I was wondering, for all of you that have lost a great deal of weight how long it it take you? I know it doesn't happen over night and that it takes time, I am just wondering how long it took everyone.
Thanks
Jessica
Hi, it took me 1yr. 1 week and 5 days to meet my goal weight of 89lbs. lost. I have since lost 5 more lbs. in the last 2 1/2 months. It sure didn't happen over night, but it was faster than I thought it would be. I lost very quickly the first 6 months and very slowly the last 6 months. I did a lot of cardio with my weight loss regime.
I started around 200 lbs in July 2004. I was around 165 in October and 150 at Christmas. I reached 140 in March 2005. I then plateaued terribly for months. I finally reached 138 sometime in the summer (June?) and plateaued some more (I actually thought I was maintaining). In October 2005, the scale surprised me by dropping to 135. By January, 2006, my weight loss stabalized around 127 lbs which I have maintained since.
You can see my initial weight loss chart here (kind of quit charting during the first big plateau).
It took me about 8 months to lose the first 55 lbs. It took me another 9 months to lose the last 15 or so. Definitely worth it!!!!
I lost my first 30 lbs in 1 year -- which is pretty amazing considering I didn't do a single minute of (delibrate) cardio in that entire year. It was all weight training and better eating habits.
I then "took a year off" (whoops) from losing when I moved to the UK, came home having not gained a single pound (thank goodness), and dropped another 19 - 20 lbs in about 8 months -- which got me down to my goal of 139 - 140 lbs last Christmas Eve.
I then convinced myself I was in "maintenance mode" and slowly crawled back up to 150 over the last 9 months or so.
I hope that answers your question without being too confusing. Also note that I have always lost at a rate of about 1/2 lb a week which is WAY too slow for most people. But it's a rate that works for me, and I'm quite happy with it.
Hi! I've been working at it since March 2005 and I'm finally getting closer to my goal weight. Some weeks I loose 1 lb, some 2 and some I just stay the same. Just keep going because like my husband always reminds me when I get impatient, "if you loose 1lb a week, that's 52 lbs in a year" and he's right it does add up!
I started the day after Easter of this year, 2006 and I have lost 21lbs. This last two months, July and August have been tough with summer and I think I have plauteaued. But I did drop 2.5lbs a week ago, but gained it back because of AF but that is almost over so hopefully I can get into the 140's soon!!!
I started eating right in August 2002. Around June or July of 2003, I had dropped 40+ pounds and so added exercise at that time. By the end of 2004, I had lost an additional 60+ pounds.
I started in July 2004, lost about 10lb between then and September. Gained most of it back between September and January 2005, then got down to my 100lb lost target in February 2006, so 13 months since my "restart" or 18 overall.
It took me two years and two months to lose my weight. I am glad it took me a while as I have been at this weight for 6 months now without really thinking about it. I made lifestyle changes, so I didn't change anything once I reached my current weight. I may lose some more, but I am not in any rush.
I lost 100 pounds in a little over a year, starting at nearly 300 pounds.
My weight loss slowed as I lost -- it is often tougher to lose at the same rate when you have less to lose! Each pound is a greater percentage of your weight.
I think there's a gem hidden in some of these responses -- I don't know that it matters how fast you lose it. The ULTIMATE goal is keeping it off. For me at least, doing that is going to require that I stick to these habits I'm building. Because this process does take a while, I am hoping I am learning how to do that as I go... And if I do start gaining it back, that I have the confidence to try again.
Hello! I am a few pounds away from my goal and it has been about a year and a half for me. I found this time around though that the slower it came off the better it stayed off and besides a few pounds around the holidays I continue to lose at a pretty steady pace. Good luck with your journey!
Well, I didn't lose nearly as much weight as many of those who have already posted, but it has taken my 9 months so far. When I started this, I gave myself a year to complete my loss and obtain my goal. So far, I am on track even though I got rather lazy this summer (I played yo-yo with the same 2 or 3 pounds all summer long!). As of today, I've made my September goal of a 4 pound loss and have only 4 pounds remaining (which I hope to lose by Thanksgiving).
WOW! Thank you all for sharing with me. You all have lost so much it is VERY inspiring!! And the before and after pictures are truly AMAZING!!!! Congratulations on your amazing transformations!!! You are all an inspiration!!
