Default Breast Woe's

any other bodaciously bosom-y babes here?

I'm feeling really down on myself right now. I wish I could just lop these things off! I discussed breast reduction with my doctor but she said that I should see the difference weight loss makes to the size of my breasts before considering surgery.

I just feel so inproportionate! and like I look really top heavy. I'm 19 and I've never had one of those small "teenage" bodies. I went from having a boyish figure to that of a woman over the course of a month when I was 14! and I mean a STACKED woman haha.

has anyone had breast reduction surgery? or is considering it? or at least can sympathize with me haha

Well- I don't know how much "advice" I can give you.... I actually had breast enhancement surgery last year. I don't regret it - not one bit - but I know/understand that reduction is way different. My sis-in-law had it done (she was 26) - she was a DD and went down to a B-cup. I don't know if it was her doctor, or the way her breasts were or what.... but he basically butchered her. She had a huge horrible scar that looked like a big X across her chest. She was pleased with the "lack of weight" & the B-cup, but she hated that scar.

One thing I CAN tell you is that you need to "interview" 2 or 3 doctors before you get into this. From my own experience, I felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest for a few days.... then again, they sure do give ya some super-duper drugs ...I was totally loopy for the first 3 days; couldn't have told ya my name!

But DO think long & hard about this before you do it - talk to doctors, get referrals... good doctors will give you the names/numbers of some patients so you can talk to them, get to know them. Do a MASSIVE GOOGLE search, read, read, read! It's a serious operation, after all, you're REMOVING part of you! I'm not trying to scare you; just want you to be aware. Oh, and your doc is right... wait to see what the weight loss does for you. Boobs get smaller like any other part when you're dieting.

Good luck with your decision.

I can sympathize with you. I never even went through the training bra thing. As I lost weight over the past few years, my breasts did shrink a bit, but alas, they will never go down even a cup size. My shoulders are so sore from bra straps.

I have considered reduction surgery, but it's only covered if there is a medical reason. Now, at my age, I don't know if it's worth it.

I can see your doctor saying to wait until your weight loss is complete. Breast tissue is mostly fat, and some of the fat will disappear. You are still young, so you have a few years to play around with the idea.

In the meantime, keep your chin up and your back straight.

I can sympathize. I've been a DD or larger since, well since I was a teen. Two things... First-a professionally fitted bra can make all the difference. I hated to spend the $$ but it was sure less than surgery and made a huge difference in lifting up the "girls", secondly-breast reduction surgery can affect your ability to breastfeed so if that is a concern you might wait until you are done having babies. Just some thoughts. (((Hugs)))

Oh can I ever relate! Believe me, I've got the biggest ones you've ever seen LOL... to te place of being "grotesque" -- except I am happy to say they have gone down a HUGE amount since I have been working out and losing weight.

I too considered reduction surgery but in my case they were so extremely large that my doctor advised it would constitute such major surgery that it would really be to my advantage to lose all the weight I can first. I am hoping they will keep shrinking away as I keep losing weight.

So I definitely sympathize with you!

However, you are not all that heavy so sounds as if a good possibility for you in the near future. Hang in there and my advice would be to get busy and lose the weight recommended by your doctor and then consider the surgery!

I guess my only advice would be to remember that no surgery comes without scars, and that there are always major risks, even though the incidence may be fairly low. Your breasts won't look completely normal after a breast reduction, so if that's important to you, you may want to reconsider. However, if you're only concerned about the back issues, bra issues, and how you look in your clothes, then it might be worth the risk. Once you cut, there's no going back, so you have to be prepared to accept the risks along with the benefits. If there is a nonsurgical way to get closer to what you want, definitely try that first! You can always gain weight back if you like them less once you've lost the weight, but once you've been cut, you're kind of stuck and additional surgeries are always more complicated than the first.

My step-mom had a breast reduction a few years ago and hasn't looked back - she's so happy now, and they did a great job of the surgery, so she healed really quickly and had very small scars. See what happens when you get down to your goal weight, and then consider surgery.

I have to echo the same thing...once you cut, there is no going back. My mother just had a breast lift and augmentation...and honestly, I think they looked better BEFORE. She wanted a lift and a slight "filling out" (she was a C cup before and her chest actually looked great for a woman in her 50's!) and she ended up with boobs that look like a cheap porn stars...he actually took her to a DD when she asked for a small D! I measured her after her healing and went bra shopping with her-and she is DEFINITELY a DD-and now can't find bras in her size because her frame is too small for a DD. (36 band size) She has to order them online now.
They look really unnatural, and even with the dermabrasion they do afterwards-there is STILL visible scarring around her nipple area.

Any plastic surgery is going to leave a scar...and the results are not always what you envisioned them to be...and there is no going back. I can see after my mom's job, how some people can get a nose job/boob job/face lift or what have you...and end up going back for a second or third procedure and getting "addicted".

A tummy tuck leaves a lower abdominal scar...removing excess skin from the upper arms leaves scarring on the underside of the arms...a breast lift or reduction leaves scarring...

I could use a couple procedures myself...but when I really sat and thought about it-I would feel just apprehensive about having a "scar" as I am about having the body part that isn't *perfect*.

Oh...I also went from an A cup in high school to a D cup over the course of a summer...and as an adult woman I am a DD.

Convential wisdom is that your bustline is one of the first things to go, however for me, it was the absolute last place I lost fat. In fact, out of the thirty or so pounds I had to lose at the beginning, I didn't lose anything in the bustline until I got down to the last seven. So you may just need to get a bit closer to goal before the fat loss starts.

Trust me, I thought I would never lose my ample chest so there is hope. And when it goes, it goes; within two weeks I went from a DD to a C. I would definitely wait and see how much you lose from weight loss before considering surgery.

Echoing Zorak, and agreeing with your doctor here. We all have one area that is the last to go on us. For me, it's my lower tummy and hips, but for some, it's the breasts. You don't have a lot to lose, but I didn't notice the difference in my lower tummy until the last 5 to 10 pounds last time. So you may not notice a difference in your breasts until the final few pounds.

Unfortunately for me, my breasts were the first to go...2 cup sizes down. But I'm nursing right now and enjoying them being fuller again.

Weightloss has reduced me from a tight squeeze them in DD cup to a B cup. I would never had believed weightloss would actually reduce my breast but it did.

I'm an E cup, and I can't wait to lose some of the weight off my breasts, with me its that I want to fit in sexy bras, and all the ones designed for people my size seem really unsexy with their big straps.

I personally wouldn't consider surgery, but I'd love to go down a couple of cups. I'll just stick with whatever size I am naturally for my weight.

If you want surgery then go for it, and I hope it works for you, but like the other people here say research it all well, and make sure that you are 100% sure before you do it.

I had a reduction in March 2005, and I don't regret it. That's not to say it was all sunshine and roses, but now I'm very glad I had it done. I was a 44DDD, and after some weight loss and exercise, I lost 4 inches off my ribcage, but nothing off the cup size. I'm now 40 some total pounds down from before surgery, and I'm still the same B/C cup but I have lost more off the ribcage. I know I may lose some as my weight goes down, but that's fine by me. I always hated having large breasts, and when they told my insurance approved the surgery I was literally jumping for joy. Once my "franken-boobs" were healed I was able to really focus on losing more weight and I was able to comfortably add more cardio to my workouts.

I do agree with waiting though. This was not an easy decision, but definitely one I'm glad I made.

Since the age of 9, I have been called names like "Mountain Chest" and have been ridiculed for my out of proportion body. When I was very young, my mother and I discussed the possibility of a reduction if my chest continued to grow at such an abnormal rate. I was a C cup by the time I was in 6th grade and grew to a 36 DD at my fullest size as an adult.

At first, when losing weight, my chest gradually started to shrink. I went out and had to buy some 36 D bras. Now those are too large, and now I barely fill a 36 C and am still shrinking. It's strange to think that my chest is currently the size it was when I was around 11 or 12. Recently, I've rapidly been losing weight in my chest and hips (now my waist doesn't seem so tiny any more ).

My advice would be to put off the decision for a while; you can always have the procedure later. You can never really know how your proportions will change while losing weight.

Also, keep in mind that if you do shrink, the skin may not go back to the size it used to be. I have 36 C breasts, but 36 DD skin that will require surgery to remove. So, perhaps, you may shrink on your own, but you may require a slightly different surgical procedure.

I wish you luck and patience.
