Default Trip to the Tailor got me feeling so down:(

So I am going to be in a wedding this April and the brides momma is hand making all the dresses so we had to turn in our measurements today and WOAH. So depressed.

so I told the bride I'd hand in my measurements later than everyone as I am trying to lose more weight we'll guess what? I ended up gaining 4 pounds not including some bloat from last nights wine Fest So usually I am a size 12/14 but not anymore I guess after the evil tailor put my hips at 50 inches and my waist at 37?! I just got a size 12 coat I'm swimming in and a size 14(UK) dress that is boxy at the waist and hips. I'm so confused. Her measurements put me at a size 18/20. I'm so embarrassed turning in my measurements now esp since everyone in the bridal party is mostly petite. Last u checked my waist was a 32 and my hips were a 43 how could I put on so many inches? I know she is supposed to put a couple extra on but this just seems silly.

Maybe the tailor was measuring for the amount of material needed for that part of the body cuz they need extra for the seams. I don't know but try not to worry about. Go by how you have been measuring and keep going forward.

I'm tall like you and we tend to hide our weight better so don't worry about the petites. Since you aretrying to lose weight and the brides mother is making the dresses, could you maybe ask her to make yours last?

Sewing patterns run much smaller. MUCH smaller. She is probably going by the measurements for the pattern she is using. Don't let it bother you.

Hand in your measurements with a confident smile and not a word of apology or explanation. And then move forward with your plan, whatever it is.

Agreed.

Don't get me started on bridesmaid dresses. I've only been a bridesmaid a couple of times but eventhough I'm a size 14/16 my bridesmaids dresses were ordered in sizes 20 or 22. I think they prefer them to be big so that they have room for error when taking them in and then even more room for letting them out if necessary.

Unless you put a sign on your forehead saying "I'm wearing a size 18" nobody will know or care. It does NOT matter what size dress you're wearing or what your measurements are. When you walk into the room with your dress people will see your smile, your attitude, and your confidence. Be proud of your stature and wear it with pride. You're in this wedding because you are special to the bride and someone is making a beautiful dress for you. There is lots to celebrate here, forget about the numbers.

I was just at a wedding where 3 of the 5 bridesmaids were plus sized. They wore simple, soft chiffon dresses and looked beautiful. I think no one was thinking about their size because they were all at ease and having a good time.

Amen! The worst thing about being overweight is how difficult it can be to love ourselves completely. Hand in those measurements and then forget about everything except how amazing you'll look in that hand-tailored dress. Lucky you!
