Pattience, a GMO is a genetically modified organism. Which is exactly what it sounds like. It's an organism that has had genetic material from another organism incorporated into its makeup. The most common application for this is to make a food crop able to withstand direct spraying of herbicides, or to make its own pesticides within it, or to not need as much water, etcetera. I am okay with selective breeding, as this is a slower, more natural way to cultivate desired tendencies in animals and plants, while still using their own genes. I am just not sure about taking genes from starfish and bacteria and making them code for proteins in plants and animals. It doesn't seem quite right. I have no problem with cell culturing to manufacture drugs, as this is making a specific chemical to be refined for use as a medicine; you aren't consuming the whole thing together. I just don't like the idea of eating some hybridized thing that was created in a laboratory in order to help make herbicide manufacturers richer.

In reference to the portion control issue with bread and pasta and such, I am not, at this point, able to control myself with these things. I obviously have some sort of addictive tendencies with these foods. Now that I haven't been eating them, with the exception of the two pieces of Ezekiel, I don't crave them, I don't think about them, and it seems like a totally different person that used to eat fistfuls of pasta and bread like a crazy woman. I'm not sure, either, but when I ate the bread, my stomach hurt and was making loud gurgling noises the rest of the day. I am not sure if I have an issue with gluten, but I know for sure these foods set up a crave binge cycle that is insatiable for me. I don't have the same issue with rice or potatoes or any other carbohydrate rich food.
