Red face Starting out on journey

I began a week ago to change my life. I've yoyo'd and struggled with my weight my whole life. After having my son, I stopped caring about me. On Sunday I stepped on the scale and couldn't believe where I was. Now I'm at 322 (4 pounds down)...water weight I know, but it's a step. I'm needing encouragement though. The amount I have to lose is daunting, and I'm having trouble getting support at home.

Welcome to 3FC. I didn't have much support at home either. Reading and posting here was a big help. I still come here everyday. Focus on smaller goals if it's daunting. Like 5 pound goals. It'll come off...you can do this!

Thank you KatMarie! I've decided to set a mini goal for myself of ten pounds by 1/31.

Congratulations on your weight loss! I hope to maintain the same drive as you have to reach my goals! The support on here will definitely help a lot. I have trouble getting my husband on board. Tonight for example, he ordered pizza...I ate a salad, but the temptation is tough. I'm just going to stay focused and connected on 3FC.

, You are already succeeding by just being here. Take it one day at a time and appreciate all of your accomplishments along the way (they really do add up). I never thought the site of baggy pants would give me such joy lol...Good Luck!!!

When my hubby wanted pizza, I made it instead of ordering out. That way I could have one piece and not go over calories or feel guilty. His favorite meal is lasagna, so I found a healthy recipe with eggplants and fat free cottage cheese. Soooo yummy! But ya, there were many times he ate bad and I just had to grin and stay strong. He's actually lost around 50 pounds in about 2 years from me changing out recipes and adding more veggies to fill him up...so sneaky ;-)

Best of luck to you, you've come to a great place. There's so much info on this site, make sure you look around when you have time, there are so many threads on all kinds of topics.

Small goals have helped me and looking at the positives those times when I don't make my goal, so that I keep going and don't quit. You're off to a great start, wishing you much success!!

I know that I do best when I set my goals short and not very far away. Sometimes, even a monthly goal is hard to do. At times, all I can focus on is what I do today.

I also personally find it demotivating to set short term goals to lose X amount of weight in Y time. That is because I can't entirely control when the loss shows up. I can control what I eat and what I do. If I do the right things, weight will come off, but not necessarily at the exact speed I think it should.

Week 1 done and I'm a solid 4 pounds down. I'm feeling better and much less hungry. I know week 2 tends to be the toughest but I'm heading into it with a much more positive attitude. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. It really helps! Week 2 goal: positive attitude and exercise twice. Baby steps.

Well done on losing 4 pounds! Be proud of yourself... I too have just started my weight loss journey and I am really hoping I can overcome my weight issues this year! I am new to this forum but from what i see it is a great support network! Share with others and stay focused

Good on you for making the decision to get back in charge of your life. I don't envy you your husband though. That would be tough. I hope you find the support of similar people helpful here though.

I agree with those who said that trying to lose x amount of weight by a certain weight is a way to sabotage your intentions. Make the goal just five pounds but forget the date. It will be added pressure and reason to get upset and lose heart when things don't go according to plan.

Instead focus on learning how to eat health, sustainably and as you say baby steps in your exercise. Go easy on the exercise at first. Choose approaches that don't put strain on your joints. Water activities, and static forms are probably best, like Iyengar yoga and weight training. But lots of walking, or things like running or rumba may not be the best thing for your knees. HOuse cleaning should be good. things like some gardening chores, window washing, making beds etc. So you could step up your cleaning regime if you are not already an obsessive about it.

I should take my own advice though and do more housework. Good luck with your journey. Actually i'm not even bothering too much with exercise at this point because i have other essential goals to work on. Its enough for me to eat really well in a calorie managed way.

It's been a while since I've posted. Thank you to everyone for their words of encouragement. I've had my ups and downs over the last two months, but I'm officially down 24 pounds as of today. I feel so much better and have a lot more energy to play with my son. My husband joined me and has lost 21 pounds himself! We each purchased a Fitbit for one another for Valentine's Day and it has helped keep my accountable and motivated. I'm going to keep on pressing on and continuously move forward towards my goal.
