Unhappy I weigh much more than I thought I did... :(

I could have sworn I was 175 pounds, like I was a couple months ago. I started my diet a couple days ago and I went to weigh myself in the gym... 200 pounds flat.
I'm 5'7" and I'm pretty upset.
This sets my goal back even further. I guess it makes me glad that a change is happening, but that's still kind of discouraging off the bat...

In the same height and imagine my shock at 196.6. One day I was retaining water and for the first time I saw 201 on the scale. Now don't lose hope or let your self esteem diminish. For me personally good self esteem and a positive attitude are necessary to lose weight. You can do this!

Oh, that's a tough shocker when we're not prepared for it! I know all to well how that feels.

Glad you've joined us! You're on the right track, Rada. Stay the course and you'll get there!

It happened to me too when I started. I was sure that I was 205 lbs but when I finally bought a new scale it showed me as 220. It was pretty depressing, but it gave me the kick in my pants to start properly (mainly because of the shock of seeing that I had hit the dreaded 100 kg mark). It wasn't a happy day, but I'm glad I saw it then and have kept checking it ever since.

Remember that all scales are different, the amount you weight varies on the conditions you are weighing yourself under (clothes, BM, time of day, just eaten or drinking). Last year I was at a mini goal of mine but when I was checked at work, I was up 5 pounds.

It happened to me twice in my life of gaining and losing, and it shocked me both times. I should have known by how my clothes felt, what I could no longer squeeze into, etc. Try to shrug it off and move on. I now weigh myself on the same scale every Wednesday morning, regardless of how my eating and drinking has been.

Remember, it is just a number, and it will change anyway. So don't let it stop you from making progress! Before you know it, that number will be in the waaaay in the PAST -- just think how fast the last year flew by!

You can do it, just set your sights on the future and make every day count!

I feel your pain. But it's better to know the truth than to live a lie. 200 is a hard number to swallow, just remember you are working towards change! Good luck!
