Default What foods work for you in the Heat?

Greetings, All!

The heat is hitting Indiana (we've been blessed with quite temperate weather so far)!

I am finding that an array for chilled soups (prepared with lots of veggies, and some with non-fat greek yogurt, or low sodium tomato or other veggie juice) is a lovely way to enjoy yummy tastes, keep hydrated, and still eat "on plan"!

Do you have any suggestions for keeping cool and eating well during the heat of summer? If so, please share!

Well, obvious snacks would include cucumbers and watermelon. I would suggest fruit infused teas, homemade lemonade sweetened with splenda or stevia, and coconut water.

I like salads when it's hot here...and smoothies...and cereal...but "hot" here isn't what hot is anywhere else in the Lower 48

I've been eating tons of smoothies, fruit, yogurt, cold oatmeal, and raw veggies with hummus. And icy water, of course

I eat a lot fruit and veggies in the summer, because it's all so fresh, delicious, plentiful and cheap in the summer months. I'll usually have a couple days when I'll only eat watermelon and microwaved sweetcorn (wrap a fresh ear in a paper towel - run under the faucet to get the paper towel wet, and microwave on a plate for 2 minutes.

I don't eat this way often or for more than a day or two unless I'm going to add in some grilled chicken or other protein.

I freeze stuff in the summer. Frozen grapes, orange segments, grapefruit and Greek yogurt. Put them in freezer for about an hour. Yum! I tend to eat meat proteins that I don't have to warm up, like cooked chicken or canned tuna. My favorite treat is a frozen banana, with almond silk milk, made into a thick smoothie.

I've been eating a lot of fruit! Watermelon, peaches, plums, cherries, mangoes, pineapples, papaya etc. Mmmmm - I love this time of year!

I've also been making a lot of smoothies (both green and fruit) and getting creative with protein shakes and cold salads. I love the greek salads they sell at deli's and I finally figured out how to make it the way I like it. Oh I have also been experimenting with cold teas and making my own blends.

Anything grilled! Salads, and of course corn on the cob, tomato salad (w olive oil, salt, pepper, fresh basil), caprese, bean salads, cucumbers or grape tomatoes dipped in anything
