Default Going to a fair tomorrow

So my city has this big fair every year in January with jumbo hot dogs, pizza, funnel cake, milk shakes, etc. I have a dentist appointment in the morning, then have to run home and pick up my husband and daughter to meet friends at the fair by 12:30. I'll have breakfast before I go, but won't have time to eat lunch at home. Any suggestions for what to eat for lunch? Would 1 slice of pizza be detrimental to my weight loss? I really don't want to sabotage myself, but there really is no healthy food there and I don't want to just have a light snack and make myself so hungry that I overeat at dinner. Suggestions?

If you are a calorie counter, I'd definitely just count the calories and keep it honest. 1 slice of pizza won't hurt you.

Thanks! How do I figure out how many calories are in 1 slice of pizza? Is 300 a safe bet?

300 is about right for a traditional slice of pie from Pizza Hut or whatever. But a giant-sized fair slice is probably going to be twice as big and ring in closer to 600. But it still might be one of your better options!

Are you doing calorie counting? Are you using any tools?

Things like MyFitnessPal can estimate but it depends on the type of pizza and how big. It could be 300 calories, it could be 500.

Yes, I'm calorie counting. We're having salad with beans and tomatoes for dinner tomorrow (cheap version of a taco salad), so the rest of the day will be light. I'll have to see how big it is and compare it to pizza hut pizza on my fitness pal. I just don't know what else to eat and that seems to be the safest bet. I'm going to get plain cheese and dab the grease off.

Do they have any ethnic stands or bbq? Beef is huge here but they usually offer some smoked chicken options. Usually there are gyro stands as well that offer chicken options. If you only eat maybe 1/2 of the pita it may not be so bad.

If there's only traditional, greasy, fatty fried food, personally I'd go with a hot dog. It's less greasy and often times they offer somewhat veggie like options, relish, onions, tomatoes, peppers, to top it with. It's easier to guess the calories as well.
