Default 5lb gain overnight?

So bummed right now! I woke up to find the scale 5lbs up. That's half of my total loss. I didn't do anything different the past few days. It is my TOM but I've already had a gain and drop for that.
Definitely fighting the urge to go fill my face with junk food and say screw it.

Fat gain or loss is what you should be concerned about, not weight gain or loss.

I understand what you're saying and I've been there myself but you need to learn to divorce your emotions from what the scale says because the scale isn't measuring your results, it's only measuring your weight. Due to various things, including TOM, your weight can vary significantly day to day.

As an alternative - don't weigh yourself every day. Do it twice a month.

Disclaimer - I don't own a scale and weigh myself once a week at the gym.

This has happened to me several times and in my case it was always water retention associated with too much sodium (salt) intake.

Stick with your plan and it will come back off. It is not fat.
You have to consume 3500 calories above what you need to gain a pound.
5 times 3500 = 17,500 so if you did not eat 17,500 calories above your needs in one day, it is only water retention.

Easy to say but I get bummed out also when it happens.

Remember this too shall pass.

Hi WannaB2Cute. I'm not certain but I have heard the full moon can cause more water retention? Also I had my last 'tom' give me the same amount extra as you. This month is a difficult one as well -even if you haven't indulged it's crazy in Nov-Dec because of the holidays and cortisol is always a possibility. Just keep your resolve-I'm sure you will conquer this.

Could be an excess of sodium
A result of working your muscles harder with excerise
Even if you stuck to your calorie limit, the volume of actual food you ate could have been higher...(things like pasta tend to cause me to jump on the scale for a few days)
Constipation
Drank more water then usual

Like Larry said, unless you ate 17,500 calories more then what you need, it is not fat. Just some stupid water retention caused by something...Haha

That feeling of depression and wanting to stuff your face b/c the scale gave you a number that you don't like is the reason I stopped using a scale!! It is no good for me.
