Red face Late fall/ winter and low energy levels

Am I the only one whose general energy levels seem to drop drastically come the daylight savings turn? The last few weeks have led to very low general calorie burn, mostly because allI want to do is stay under a blanket! Even the gym, once invigorating, is now tiring.

Does anyone else experience this? What do you do about it?

I feel this a lot! I am sort of self-diagnosed with SAD... Winter rolls around and all I want to do is sleep, eat, and cry. Going running outside in the middle of the day when it's warmest and the sun is out has made quite a difference for me. Even just going for a walk helps a TON. Also I take a multi-vitamin, eat cashews (niacin is supposed to help with depression), and I have a sunlamps for days when I'm really feeling yucky. I think that being outside is the most helpful thing for me though! Gives me that boost of energy to finish off the day after my 2:00 "slump"!

I have this too! I am also frustrated with not being able to get out and bike or easily take a walk on cold icy days (yes, already had snow here). I seem to need more sleep.

I got a fitbit which tracks my steps each day, and I am hoping it at least lets me know when I've not been very active. Perhaps I will write down the weather each day, and see if there is any correlation.

Also -- I try to do something different in the winter, so I've gone back to ice skating, although I can't get to do that everyday due to the travel time to the rink and limited hours it is open.

Hope things get better!

Do some research and talk it over with your doctor, but definitely think about adding a vitamin D supplement in the winter. Many people test out as Vit D deficient, and the shorter daylight hours in the winter only exacerbate it.

Natural is always better -- if you can try to make sure you get some sunlight on your skin every day, great! - and eating oily fish (salmon, sardines) is another great way of getting more vitamin D in. But yeah, vit D can really help with fall/winter fatigue.

I live in Sweden, so we are very low on sunlight during the winter. I usually do ok though- more tired for sure, but plenty of energy when I have something going on. I do think it is very important to get as much sunlight as you can during the fall and winter like taking a midday walk, etc.

Yeah... I haven't been at it as long as some people, but the change in season has had a toll on me too... Running's gotten harder...
