Fat clothes
 

I'm new to this and I have so many questions. I started at size 26/24 March 27, 2012 now I am in a size 16. What do I do with all my larger size clothes? Some still have tags on them. It is so expensive to buy new clothes. I was giving them away until I started replacing them and found it was too expensive to buy work clothes. Any help would be great!!

Maybe it would be worth it to check with a seamstress to see if your clothes could be taken in? This would, of course, cost some money, but I can't imagine it would be more than going out and buying a whole new wardrobe. Especially if you were to explain to her your situation....maybe she'll be willing to give you a discount, seeing as you're continuing to lose weight and will be needing her services until you reach goal?

First off, congrats on your loss!

If you have high quality clothing, you can always have it taken in, instead of purchasing new things. Most clothing can be taken in at least a few sizes if you find a good tailor.

You can find new clothes in your new sizes at consignment stores, secondhand stores, and discount retailers pretty inexpensively. I thought of my in between sizes as "throwaway" clothes - I bought one outfit I felt really great in, and just enough to get by on everything else, as inexpensively as possible. Then I invested in higher quality things at goal.

You might try selling them on Craigs list or Ebay, or a local consignment shop. If you're in a small community, garage sale or local swap shop on the radio, newpaper ads, etc.

honestly, i threw them away.

if id had a lot of high end clothing i wouldve had them tailored but most of my "fat" wardrobe was t shirts from old navy and sweats.

i figured i wouldnt want to buy new clothes in a bigger size. i was right! it didnt stop me from re-gaining 55 of 70 lbs however, but, it sucked and reminded me how much i was gaining. in the end i refused to go above a size 16 and i was getting REAL close so i got back on plan.

i currently have one pair of jeans that fit because i refuse to buy another pair of 16 jeans. i wear them EVERY day, hahahahaha. theyre getting a little too big so hopefully i can move back down soon but i dont have a lot of 14s or 12s either and im not buying any more of those either. once i get back to a size 10 im going to have a wardrobe JACKPOT!

Yeah I would sell them on ebay too, then buy new ones with the money from selling. That's my plan with some of my bigger clothes :)

It would be nice to take them to a consignment shop. Many of them don't have a lot of nice larger sizes.

See if you have any thrift stores near you that give you store credit for selling your clothes, and then you can buy new smaller clothes with the credit.

Congrats on your weight loss! These are all some great ideas. I have been living in stretchy clothes like yoga pants and leggings.

Also I have been doing a mixture of throwing items away and donating them. I took that pair of shorts in my avatar and framed them and put it on my wall as a reminder...

I spent about $300 having my highest-quality fat clothes altered -- perhaps $20 per item, on average. Totally worth it.

I keep one pair of "big pants and big shirt". The rest if pretty I sell on ebay or donate.
