Water weight. Stay on plan and off the scales for a few more days. I'm sure it will all be back to normal by next week.

Sigh- it's been a week since I was sick, steadily eating an average of 1100 cals (I usually eat 1200) and I'm still up 5 pounds. Should have lost another 2 in that week, so I'm up over 7lbs. Nothing seems to be helping. So frustrating!!!

I know it's physically impossible for me to have gained 5 pounds by eating 400 cals a day when I was sick, but my body still hates me. Wtf, body?

I agree. The way "starvation mode" is thrown around is a myth to me.

Kelly - don't try to understand it because it will keep you pulling at your hair lol. Kick that scale for a while and keep doing the healthy things you are doing. I know how frustrating that can be.

My friend is diabetic (type 1), and she says she always know in advance when she is getting sick, or has an infection, because her sugar shoots up. So I'm thinking in a non-diabetic person, that would result in insulin being dumped in your system. So there IS some kind of metabolic thing going on when you're sick....

The way the body treats water is a weird thing. Not long back I didn't eat for three days. I lost nine pounds in that period of time. I realized it must have been mostly water, but it was still nice to see the scales read that low! Anyway, I started back eating my regular diet amount on the fourth day. Three days after I started eating again, I gained exactly nine pounds back. (I don't think I'll be doing that again anytime soon). Anyway, if you're really eating under maintenance, it'll come off. It has to.

just keep going, you will be fine. if you had any sort of infection or inflammation, you are probably still holding water weight. your body processes everything differently when you are sick. your body doesn't hate you, it hates the invasion of bacteria or virus, and is probably still recovering. feel better and stick with what's worked for you!
