Default New 800 Calories effort!!

From April 2010 to the Xmas 2010 I lost 30lbs and then, as one does, had a wee rest. Got back to it in the January of 2011 and from then until last month I literally couldn't lose a thing!!
In desperation I tried 1,000 calories and then 800 for a few weeks...Again no success!
Then I asked my doctor for Orlistat which he gave me a prescription for only to find that it had gone out of production. So I bought a similar product, Alli, which I took for several months (and costing me a small fortune) ..Again very little success...a few pounds down and then back on again in less than the month.
I am going on my second cruise come next Xmas and am absolutely determined that this weight will be reduced by then so that I can feel and look a sight better than I do at the moment.
Started on an 800 calorie diet on Sunday and have lost 4lb so far...Hooray!!

PLEASE DO NOT ADVISE ME ON EXERCISE AS I AM DISABLED AND THEREFORE NOT ABLE TO DO ANY.
I have spina bifida and polymyalgia which is very painful.

So, what is it that you started that is suddenly working? Just trying 800 calories again?

Sorry Jez. I started with an 800 calorie diet again.
I know this is very low but I am under docs supervision and intend to just do it for a few weeks anyway.

I know it is tough when you are disabled to get your calories low enough, given that your body is going to be very sensitive to nutrients and quick to gain (without the ability to easily exercise and take it off). If you are comfortable and feel good on that amount and your doctor is okaying it, I wish you the very best.

Four pounds is a good start, though do be careful with Orlistat, it has some unpleasant side effects!

My first thought was that your calorie intake was too low but as seeing that you're 4'11 and disabled so that does make sense somewhat even though I don't know how old you are. Usually the older you are, the less calories you need.

Didn't your doctor try to find out why you stopped losing? How did you lose the 30lbs from before? Anyway, congratulations on your 4lb down! You are so close to 199 and below.

Oh yea, I second Taryl's warning - something about the food you eat in conjunction with the orlistat/alli cause unpleasant side effects, is it the higher fat content that causes it? I cannot remember.

Thanks Amandie. I am 77 so again a problem as ones general bodily functions slow down.
I actually asked to see a nutrionist at the hospital btu she didn't come up with any solutions, in fact she told me not to bother with trying to lose any more weight..would you believe it!?!
I actually lost the 30lb by a 1200 calorie diet.

I am aware of the side effects of Orlistat but as I said it's not available over here now. Problems arise if fat is consumed as Orlistat prevents the liver from absorbing it so it just shoots out the other end with rather startling affects...

Yes, with your condition and age I'm not surprised that is what it takes to get your weight down - very sluggish metabolism with all those factors, combined. Good luck and I hole you can shed the rest and keep it off comfortably!

4 pounds is a great start! Sounds like you have a great plan in place for the circumstances you have.

I am surprised also that the nutritionist told you not to bother to try and lose weight! Although it seems many nutritionists are numb skulls!

I was about to say 800 is shockingly low but having read through all your circumstances I now see they are really quite extraordinary. If your doctor is ok with this diet, I sincerely wish you the best luck. I think it is amazing that you keep trying to lose the extra weight, many people much younger than you give up as they can't be bothered "anymore". Good luck!

May I ask what your meal plans are like? What do you eat? How do you deal with hunger? So glad that everything is going well!
