Canceled cable so they couldn't watch the food network or cooking tv? I did. It was feeding my addiction. So it had to go! And it frees up more time for interactive things, like the kinect or wii, or walking the dog. Or walking more on the treadmill when I'm bored.

But I will say that I do miss Dexter and the walking dead. But then, I also miss kitkats and mcdonalds. But it's always something, right?

What is that quote? Life is a balance between suffering and boredom? I'd rather be bored than suffering from weight caused diseases and issues.

With that being said, I've done diets before and this is the longest I've stayed. I'm having problems resisting looking at the scale every 5 minutes to play a mind game with my inner bully. I'm having a hard time resisting those hunger pains because I'm used to eating everything and anything I want to. I'm having a hard time looking at myself in the mirror and what I let happen. Suffering and boredom alright.

I've never been sucked into foodie type shows, but you missed a heck of an episode last night on walking dead :O

I just record the shows I want to watch and choose to avoid triggering ones. I love shows like "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" but it isn't worth the mental temptation to watch, for example, so I don't. I didn't need to cancel the tv, we limit it very heavily anyway. I did, however, have to consciously choose to channel surf to other places than Food Network!

I'm not going to lie, I was doing that for awhile. But then I got to thinking about how much the cable bill was a month and what I could do with that extra cash around the house

But it has been really nice identifying that it was a trigger. I never realized how many triggers I had before I started to consciously think about what I was putting into my mouth. Most of it was sheer boredom and now I have to find other things to occupy my time. Most of it is very active, which is another step in a positive direction!

Yeah, I got rid of all the food porn! I will only watch regular TV if I record it and FF through the stupid commercials. I miss Dexter too, but I can wait and watch it from the beginning when the series is over via Netflix. I like to do that will a lot of shows. Save them for when I have a bad cold or it's raining outside.

So happy they haven't figured out how to do product placement in books!

A break from tv in general is sometimes a good thing. We suspended cable service for 8 months to save money for a trip out east, and we didn't miss it (in fairness, we kept netflix on the ps3, but we weren't slaves to it. It just gave us a super cheap options to watch when we wanted).

My man is a big "food porn" addict. It doesn't so much tempt me as it does give him unrealistic expectations of what I'm going to cook. Dude asked me for a cheese burger with grilled cheese sandwhiches for the bun 2 weeks into my diet! Keep dreaming dude!!! lol

Things like Netflix, Hulu+ and Amazon are great alternatives to cable. We haven't had Satellite or cable in 10 years and I do sometimes miss it.. but I find that I can watch whatever I like between the three alternatives.

Sometimes I have to wait till a season has ended to watch a season, Like I have to wait for season 3 to end on walking dead to watch it.. so I am always a season beind, but it is so worth it to watch it on netflix without any commercials and straight through. I don't have to wait until the next week to see what happens.

I've been trying to limit ALL my "screen" time, so not only just TV, but computer, laptop, iPad, iPhone, etc... And it's not easy... I've been trying to only spend as much time in front of the TV, etc... as I spend exercising each day... Not quite there yet, but if I really want to watch as much TV and be on the computer as much as I have been than I'm going to have to convert my living room into a home gym... lol...

I was never for the cooking shows but I have found that after I moved back to Michigan and didn't bother with cable that I'm doing much more things than sit in front of the TV. I don't remember the last time I sat down and watched a TV show. I think it's been a few months. The shows I use to like to watch where on cable normally on the History, Discovery, Animal Planet, and SyFi channel. I now only get 4 channels. And I don't miss TV.

I love the Food Network. That and TLC. I never liked to cook before I started my journey but a side hobby of mine now is trying to come up with healthier versions of the recipes on there. Yes even Diners, Drivethroughs and Dives! I always get new ideas to adapt to keep my menu interesting.

Sometimes I do Wii free step (I have the Everlast booster platform for my Wii board) whilst watching tv and try to beat my highest step count scores. So if you have Wii Fit, that's a way to get in your shows and exercise in one fell swoop. It takes away the whole loafing about aspect of tv watching.
