  • I've only lost a few pounds because my weight loss journey is new, but depending on the manufacturer I've been going between sizes 14-16-18... mostly 16... I had a lot of clothes that were a size 18 and I realize that I'm holding on to them kind of like a safety blanket I guess... 90% of the clothes I am wearing now are a 16... I can fit into my 14s but not in a good way, I wouldn't actually wear them out of the house... so... I purged ALL size 18 or 2XX clothes from my closet and will be donating them to Goodwill ... most of my size 18 stuff is barely worn... now this forces me to stay in the 16s and work down...
  • Congratulations! That must feel good in the end. Like a weight lifting off. I can't wait until I get there. I'm sooo close to 18/20, but not quite there yet.
  • Congrats! I love throwing out clothes that are too big. Really makes me feel like I am accomplishing something.
  • good for you, LBB! I'm looking forward to doing this in about a month. I have clothing in a range of sizes, and I'm movin' on down.
  • keep one thing, then down the road you'll have something to put on and really SEE the difference. I was purging my closet a while back, and tried on some of the bigger sizes, and it was a great feeling to see how much smaller I'd become.
  • congrats! That is awesome motivation I think. I can't wait to purge my closet lol. I have a pair of size 18s that I wore before when I lost weight but I gained it back so I can't fit into them yet. I think if I drop 10 more pounds I will be able to get into them. I can't wait to toss out my bigger stuff lol

I totally agree with this. I've only kept one thing - a suit, but I can't wait to try it on again once I'm at maintenance and see how much bigger it is then I remember.
  • I've kept one pair of pants from my heaviest but I'm actually agonising over getting rid of stuff now - there's so many of my clothes that I actually quite like! How do you all decide what's to go? Is it strictly size or something more?
  • I have kept one pair of shorts which i love wearing only because they are so loose and comfy but Ive promised myself I will keep them ONLY for size comparison and not actually wear them lol....

I got rid of some nice stuff, but I said no no... I went strictly by size....
  • I kept a pair of by biggest jeans and a sweatshirt. Every other stitch of too big clothing was given away. I was told I'll be sorry because "everyone gains it all back" but my goal now is to prove the person who said that to me wrong.

You go, girl. Congratulations and all that. Keep up the good work. Don't keep anything other than one "reminder" outfit.

  • I've purged my closet twice already. My rule is if I can take pants off without unbuttoning, they need to go. Shirts go if I can grab a fistful of fabric on the side.

I'm actually shocked at how many clothes I had, and how well I'm managing on my limited cheapo in-between wardrobe. I kept 1 pair of jeans, and I can't bring myself to get rid of my "before" cashmere sweaters. I'm too cold to stop wearing them, and too cheap to buy new ones yet, but that's another story.
  • I love purging clothes, I think I've done it about three times now and with the exception of two dresses that fit but aren't flattering yet (I have a mummy tummy from having babies and these sheath dresses aren't friendly to it, maybe in another ten pounds?) I am out of old 'saved' clothes that were too small. It is an excellent feeling.

I saved three things - a dress made for me near my highest weight that was beautiful, but I now swim in; a pair of 22W pants that were way too tight but I wore them anyway; and a shirt I was wearing in one of my 'before' pictures. All of these already look great for contrast pictures on my weight loss, and I've saved them so I never forget!
  • Wtg! The safety net is hard to get away from. Especially if you liked your wardrobe. I had been a 14 for ever and amassed a winter wardrobe I was proud of. Cute little summer things were not my forte. When I lost the weight last fall it was easy to toss the summer things but I rocked my 2-4 size too big winter clothes til Christmas.

LOLLL because that is exactly what I told my husband... I got rid of all the pants I could take off without opening LOL
  • What a great feeling to be able to get rid of big clothes and fit into smaller ones. It's just downward from here, in a good way keep up the great work!
