NSV I gave my FAT clothes to my friend!

  • A lot of my bigger clothes went to Goodwill but I had some things that were very nice quality and I had them sitting in 2 bags in the corner of my room. There is a lady at my church who is a single mom and can't afford to buy herself any new clothes. So, I decided to approach her and ask her if she would like to go through the things I was getting rid of. She was grateful for the offer and excited about it.

I brought the clothes to her a week ago and checked in with her this Sunday. In fact, she was wearing some of the clothes that day at church! She is shorter than me and she had the pants cuffed up. I offered to hem the pants since I am a seamstress. Last night I went over to her house and pinned up several pairs of pants and will shorten them and give them back to her this coming Sunday. It was such a good feeling to be able to do this for her and she seems genuinely appreciative.

It was so weird to see my clothes on another person. Also, it gave me a very good visual of how big I used to be. It's funny because when I was at my highest weight I never thought I looked that big...but I'm sure I was. It just reinforces how far I have come in my weight loss journey. Today I feel so hopeful about the future and am looking forward to even more success.
  • That's great, and very generous as well considering I'd want to burn all my own fat clothes when I get to that point lol. It must be nice to be able to visualize your success in that way. Congrats to you!
  • Being able to give away your fat clothes is a fantastic NSV all on it's own, but the fact that you were able to personally help someone and see how you used to look? Wow. We don't often get the chance to see ourselves the way we see others. We donate our fat clothes and move on. I always thought I looked thinner than I did, too. The mirror at home can be a liar. It's the unexpected glimpses in mirrors that are honest, as well as the camera.

Anyways, sweet story warmed my heart. I'm so glad you were able to help this woman the way you did! I'm glad you got that visual confirmation too. It will help you maintain.
  • What a great post!

It was very kind of you to give your clothes to your friend, and even more nice to do some seamstress work on those clothes for her! BRAVO!

And that you got to help someone else and see how far you've come is just super icing on the (non-fattening) cake!! CONGRATS!!!!
  • great post! I sure wish I had a friend who'd give me her own clothes and even make a few alterations for free!!!
  • That was a win-win all the way around - what a great feeling it must have been! And so nice of you to help her out with the alterations!
  • That so awesome! It was extremely thoughtful of you as well. She is probably so grateful to have new clothes and have them altered for her personally.
  • What a wonderful thing to do! It's so great that you were able to give the clothes to someone who needed them.
  • Great story! Very giving of you and obviously helpful for the lady to get these clothes.

You must be so proud to see how far you've come. Congrats!
  • How wonderful! You got a double blessing out of it. And just imagine how thrilled that woman is to have "new" clothes right here at Christmas especially when she has children to provide for. Thanks for sharing this happy story.
