Default difference in scales

ok. I'm desperately trying not to be discouraged.

Has anybody else found that weighing on a different scale produces different numbers? The scale in my bathroom reads 125.5 and the scale at work reads 130.8.

I know the only important thing is losing weight...but it's making me wonder how much I actually weigh. The scale at my house hasn't hit 130 in several weeks, no matter what I'm wearing or have eaten or what time of the day it is.

How can I know which scale is the right one?

Yes I deal with this every week. It gets a little confusing sometimes. I weigh in on my scale at home every morning, and it usually tells me about 1.5 pounds heavier than the one at my Weight watchers meeting. IDK weight fluctuates, and I try not to put TOO much stock into the discrepancy between numbers, just take the average if you wish. Try not to let it drive you nuts like it does me sometimes.

This. It's the only way not to drive yourself mad.

In the great scheme of things, a scales readout is just a bunch of numbers. As you say yourself, the only important thing is that you're losing weight you want to lose.
Short of finding a medical professional who can guarantee their scales are 100% accurate, get a readout from them and then compare the other two scales.

I know, I fear new scales!

My boyfriend wanted to order a new, super fancy scale with all of the latest technological trimmings.

I cringed - thinking it will weight me as heavier and I will have to change my signature!

Remember too that you're weighing at different times of day in different situations.

At home... I'm assuming you weigh-in first thing in the morning, naked, after peeing? If so it makes a lot of sense that you'd weigh less!!!

At work... I'm assuming this is after you've eaten and you're fully dressed? Again that can add 2+lbs!

Also scales themselves can change even if you move them to a different part of your house. The best thing if to weight consistently at the same time on the same spot. Thus, I'd trust your home scale more because you're probably weighing before eating and without clothes so you'Re not adding extra variables into it.

I weigh in the a.m., naked, right after peeing. Some days for fun, I'll step on the fancy, expensive digital scale we use to weigh dogs, cats, etc., at work. With my clothes/shoes on I'm at least 4 pounds heavier at work.

Don't worry about it.

I had an old rotary scale that I used forever and that darn thing was 7 (!!!) pounds lighter than a digital scale. My home digital matched my doctor's scale, so I just stuck with that one, even though ti meant I was truly 7 pounds heavier than I had thought.

I've been using my bathroom analog scale and I weigh in my birthday suit right in the morning. I use that scale for the weight I go by.

Different scales give different results, but I remember that clothes and food eaten will add to my weight! I've weighed on two different scales besides the bathroom one since starting my journey:

- The scale at the gym always reads out about 3lbs heavier than my scale at home...but I weigh in the evening, with my clothes and sneakers on. That's probably about 3lbs (or more) so I figure it's pretty accurate.

- My Wii Fit always weighs me in about 8-10lbs lighter than my bathroom scale. It gets an inaccurate reading because I use it on the carpet.

You might want to consider weighing yourself on your usual scale with your clothes on about the same time you would weigh yourself at work (say on a day off). Make sure you've eaten about what you would have eaten on a work day.

The important thing is that you're losing weight! Use the same scale to track your progress

When my boyfriend and I moved in togehter we both had a scale..I would way my self on both every day and the digital one was always like 10lbs higher! It made me so depressed, so after weighting by self at the doctors and realizing the digital scale was off I threw it out. Now I stick to one scale and it that one is going down then im happy.

This would drive me crazy! I think you should just pick a scale and stick with it. Especially if you are weighing at work with all your clothes on after eating/drinking you will weight more. When I weigh myself at my mums in the middle of the day its easy for me to be 5+lbs heavier then I am in the morning at my house. Just try to resist the urge to weigh more then once a day, the fluctuations will drive you crazy. I had to learn it the hard way lol

thanks everybody I had just eaten, had on sweats, a longsleeve shirt and a jacket. When I got home, I weighed again before I got in the shower and it was down to 128.5 (so the clothes were like 3lbs)-- I had also consumed 2 full bottles of water in about an hour, so...

This morning, I got up and I was back at 125.5

I'm going to resist the urge to weigh myself every time I see a scale.

I'm one that very quickly will go crazy about stuff-- haha.

thank you for your input, advice, and continued support! I don't know what i would do without it
