Default Any tall women out there? Question

I was wondering what your goal weight was in comparison to your height. I set myself up for 175 but I have no idea if thats a good weight for my 6 foot frame. I think it may still be a bit heavy but not positive.

That is so completely individual. There are some tests where you can measure wrist and elbow sizes to figure out frame size, but really, your end/goal weight will find you. At some point of eating healthy and exercising, you will stabilize and not lose any more - or, you'll have to do excessive things to lose and then you'll know you're there.

Seems like a somewhat reasonable number but you'll know when you get closer how reasonable it is.

It seems very reasonable! I set my goal weight for the high end of the "normal" range for my height and I am comfortable here. Now that I am at my goal weight, I could stand to lose more (based on the lovely BMI charts), but it's not at the top of my "to do" list for right now. I say go for it, and you'll know whether or not you want to make adjustments once you get there.

For my height, I hit the normal bmi range at about 188 pounds. So for my goal I picked 195, as I want to be under 200, but I don't HAVE to be in the 'normal' range exactly to feel like a success, kwim? I've been obese my entire adult life, so just under 200 feels great to me. And I'll make 200 my 'drop dead' mark that I can't go over.

I have a feeling you don't have to be at 175 to hit the normal bmi - you're also very tall. If you also have a large frame, you could weigh even higher and still fit in the 'normal' range based on your frame size. Again though, you're the best judge... see where you feel the best and if going any lower (and all the work it entails) is worth the additional payoff.

Hey there, I am not massively tall (5'8") but I set myself an initial target of around the 165 pound mark as a final number, after achieving mini goals throughout the loss. It all depends on how you feel when you get there. Review it and then re address it. Good luck with your goal x

I'm 5'10, and my goal is 180 to 170. If I still feel I need to lose more at 180, I'll go lower. I was a 12 at 170 in the mid 90s, so hopefully with vanity sizing, at 170 I'll be a 10. LOL

The important thing to keep in mind is that your actual weight is just a single data point. Two similarly sized people height-wise can look completely different at identical weights due to their body composition.

I really just want to get to around the high end of my healthy BMI range and see where I am. Maybe I'll want to lose more, maybe not.

My goal right now is just a guess, based on the fact that the lowest I've ever been was 181, and while I think I looked pretty good, I still had more to lose.

Well, for someone of your height somewhere in that range is good. You're a good four inches taller than me, and my ideal weight is 155 lbs. It is also individual. My actual ideal weight in where I don't lose or gain is around 140, your personal body weight that your body enjoys being at will stay there, and it won't budge unless you overfeed yourself or work out like no one's business.

Even at 160 lbs I still looked thin. I think being taller lets us put on some more weight than shorter people and still look good. My friends are always complaining about that-even after I point out the height difference.

I'm far from tall, but I hear that the BMI is a bit skewed for you taller folks, meaning that a healthy weight is not necessarily within the healthy BMI range. I know that my fiancee is exactly a foot taller than me and when he's in the "healthy" range he looks really thin

Your best bet is to really go on how you feel about yourself as you go down. You might want to stop before 175 or after it, but it all depends on how YOU feel.

I'm 5'10 and currently weigh 197 lbs. I remember being 150 lbs and appearing VERY thin. I think it all depends on your frame size, and how you carry your weight. My sister is 5'9 and weighs approxiametly 140 and looks amazing.

I agree with most on BMI being slightly off for us taller gals. I initially set my goal weight to 165, but moved it up to 175, since I am currently TTC. However, I have a large frame, size 12 narrow shoe, so my skeleton is long. Right now I am in-between 187-189, and I look thin to average, depending on who is judging. I have a friend who is an inch shorter, and weighs the same, but I look a lot thinner, even though our weight is the same. But she should probably weigh 140-150 ideally. I think once I have the next baby, I'll focus and get down to 175. Once I'm there, I might try to go lower, or not, depending on how I feel.

I'm 6' tall and currently weigh 164lbs. I initially set my goal of 175 lbs and I felt pretty good there. I have a medium frame but long fingers and big feet (10-11). I think 175 is a reasonable goal for your height. I did weigh around 158 (very briefly) and I think I still looked pretty proportioned but it was really hard to maintain. I think you should just reassess every 5 lbs or so as you get closer to that goal weight.

Yes, this!! I've actually gained 5 lbs above my low... BUT, my jeans fit looser and my body is more compact at 165 than it was at 160. It's all muscle so I'm not too too bummed about it. Composition makes a big difference.
