Default Weight loss nerd fact.... Pounds!

Fun fact I came upon this week while reading a book unrelated to weight loss.

The origin of the abbreviation 'lb.' for pound comes from the Latin words 'libra pondo', which is the word for balancing scales, and pounds weight. We however just use the abbreviation 'lb.' for libra and don't have an abbreviation for pound.

Libra is also a word that is both singular and plural, so adding a 's' to the end, such as 'lbs.' is incorrect... It is still just lb... whether we lose 1 lb., or 4 lb.

I'm a nerd so this is fun information.

I'm going to stop putting that 's' at the end of my lb. I knew about where the abbreviation came from but I hadn't heard about how it pluralizes.

Current mini-goal: Get back to where I was in February (205)

Positive things I need to remember:
I'm at a better starting point since I didn't gain it all back yet.
I quit smoking cold turkey in Nov 2011.
I'm still trying so I can't say I've failed.

I always wondered why the tickers say "lb" lost not "lbs" lost.

Interesting! I had always wondered where "LB" came from. Sometimes I pluralize LB though because in my mind I am saying "el bees" -- I lost 2 ell bees last week!
