Default How Cheesecake Taught Me A Valuable Lesson

So my grandmother decided to celebrate the 4th early by inviting our immediate family to lunch today. The BF & I ate very clean, and stayed well within our calorie range. Then my grandma pulled out the cheesecake. CHEESECAKE. I told myself I didn't want it, which was a lie, and I didn't need it, which was true. Then the BF went and grabbed a slice. I eyed the cheesecake again thinking, well, it can't be that bad. Maybe just a small piece. I grabbed a slice of my own, devoured it with glee, and overall didn't feel too guilty concerning the encounter. Until I got home. "Eight HUNDRED calories," the BF informed me after looking up cheesecake online. I couldn't believe we just ate 800 calories of cheesecake! That put me way over my limit for the day, and meant I could literally eat nothing for dinner. Dreading, fearing, that I had truly dived head-first off the weightloss wagon, I texted my grandma trying to hold on to some shred of hope that maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought. Please, I pleaded, please only be 400 calories or so. My grandma got back to me instantaneously and was very amused at my panicked state. Apparently it was Jello No Bake Cheesecake, only 220 calories per slice.

Moral of the story:
Never eat dessert at grandma's house, no matter how innocent it looks.
It's not worth the stress, and next time it might actually be 800 calories!

I'm sorry I went for the cheesecake, but it sure made for a funny story no? Plus those few minutes of panic had to burn at least 100 calories!

Great story, I hate calorie scares like those. So not worth it.

Also, "I texted my Grandma"? That's the first time I've heard that. Gotta love it.

Lol, I guess I didn't even think about it when posting this. Yeah, my Grandma is 63 and has a home phone, a personal cell, an iphone for work, *two* laptops, a PC, and about a million cameras. She's not retired, and she works for a pretty technologically dependent source (ESD -- aka Educational Service District). She works like 6 days a week, and travels a lot for business. Guess I'm just used to having a "hip" Grandma, so to speak. Now my 93 year old GREAT Grandma is another story. She can barely work a regular phone anymore.

Two cute things: texting grandma, and the bf's apology. You guys are on here together? Adorable!

Hah. This is why I try to never eat anything unless I know the calories first.

I try not to eat anything I don't know the calories to as well. Try being the key word.

just as an FYI, it's 220 calories per slice in the box, but 350 per slice when prepared per the directions. What's done is done and I am not saying this to make you feel bad but I didn't want anyone eating it and telling themselves it was "only 220 calories"!

I think grandma's cheesecake falls under my 3 bite rule. If it's good and I mean that rare "worth it good," I will eat and savor 3 bites. After that your taste buds don't recognize the new flavor as much and your enjoyment diminishes with every subsequent bite.

When I'm really on my game, I am all the way a fan of things like this (although I usually try to stop at two but have a third bite a half hour later, haha). However I have to say that this was a cute story, and I'm glad that it worked out in your favor!!
