Look at how big a chunk of fat that is only 5 pounds is! poetiqfitness is right, your height plays a big part, as well as how much fat you have to begin with (its much more noticable on someone who is a size 2 versus a size 22 when they gain or lose 10 pounds).
Regardless, sometimes it's good to have a visual.
Here are some photos I found of women who lost 10 pounds;
I so feel this way! My husband keeps telling me I'm tiny and that 130-135 will be good for me, but I feel like NO WAY. but 10 pounds does make quite a difference. 10 pounds ago I wore a different size and had much more fat on me so I can only imagine what 10 more pounds will do. Plus once you really get serious about toning, I imagine things will change a bunch. Muscle makes a big difference.

the lower your weight is the more it makes a difference
yep! last time i got to goal the last ten REALLY came off my belly and arms. those last pounds make a way bigger difference than the first 10 lbs you lost did.
However, I still think that after significant weight loss, our perceptions are completely distorted. This is a very real phenomenon (kind of like a phantom limb, where an amputee can still "feel" their arm or leg that they lost). When I look in the mirror, I can kind of see a difference that these 50lbs have made. But really, it doesn't seem that significant to me. I still look chubby. I still see all the same flaws that I saw before (bulgy inner thighs, poochy tummy, back fat, etc).
very true. this is true of almost all our flaws. whatever you're noticing in the mirror (clogged pores, arm fat, etc) is about 20 times more obvious to you than to others. when we look at ourselves our eyes ZOOM right to our flaws. just remember that A. we are our own harshest critics, and B. other people see us as an entire package, their eyes don't go straight to the parts of our body that we're obsessed with and those flaws are probably exaggerated in our heads anyway.
WOW old thread! But very interesting topic. I agree, 10 lbs depends on your size.
This is 163 vs 153 at 5'6". There's a several inch difference in my stomach, bust, legs, hips. Basically a whole clothing size. That's a big difference.
Curious as to what 10 pounds will look like for me at a higher weight... 170 to 160.....I have been looking at my body gallery and it is hard to tell....
I would like to add a different perspective on this topic. Losing the last ten pounds is not always the solution to all problems regarding your body. I'm speaking from personal experience. I went as low as around 118 pounds which is the low end of the healthy BMI for me and I still did not have the body I wanted. I was basically doing lots of cardio and some body pump lessons at that time.
I have changed my focus now into more strength training with heavy
weights, less long steady cardio, and more LISS and some HIIT sessions and I have increased my proteins and I try to eat as healthy as I can 90% of the time and I prefer my body now even though I weight more.
At the end of the day you are the person seeing the number on the scale but what everybody sees is your body. For me focusing on my body composition instead of the number in the scale works better.
