Eating Eggs for Breakfast!
I saw this article today and had to share: http://www.socialworkout.com/2010/04...-buffets-lunch
I might have to switch to eggs! |
I can only offer anecdotal evidence, but on the mornings I eat an egg with a tortilla, I'm full until lunch time. On the mornings I eat a bowl of cereal (99% carbs), I'm scrounging for something to eat a few hours later. :)

Only two days?
I mean I can bring months of my food journal and I can tell you days I had one egg with breakfast in the morning I was fuller than the days I ate something else that wasn't high protein. I eat anywhere from 5-7 eggs a week. In our household we go through at least a dozen eggs a week! |
Mmmm
2 eggs scrambled with a splash of milk, pepper/salt, couple of deli slices of ham, and siricha hot sauce.... Mmmm about the only breakfast I'll eat other than drinking a shake |
I think eggs are awesome for breakfast, and we all know that the ideal meal has some protein and some carbs, but this doesn't seem like a very reliable study--it's just too short-term . . .
That being said, I love scrambled eggs for breakfast on days I have time to cook (usually my breakfast is homemade granola--lots of protein, healthy carbs, and fiber). Boiled eggs make a great lunchbox addition too! I find the lunch to dinner wait is usually harder than the breakfast to lunch wait. |
egg beater, shredded potatoes, cheese, hot sauce, La Tortilla Fac tortilla is my breakfast everyday.
|
I just had two hard-boiled eggs wrapped in two slices of cheese for breakfast. 260 calories, tons of protein, and I will be full until lunch :)
|
I make a scrambled egg white, spinach, tomato, onion, and a tbsp of salsa wrap on a low carb tortilla for breakfasts when I have time. The whole thing is less than 250 cal, even with a fat free slice of cheese. It's really yummy and very filling. It definitely holds me to lunch. I wish I had more time in the morning to make it more often, but I already get up at 4:30, I'm not willing to get up any earlier, haha.

My Breakfast was one toasted Sandwich thin, one poached egg, and one laughing cow wedge spread on the thins.
215 calories, 9 grams fat, 23 grams carbs, 14 grams protein, 4 grams of fiber! Yeah I'm good :D |
beerab, that sounds really gooood.
|
I LOVE eggs! I usually buy 2 dozen at a time and boil up one dozen right away to have around. Hard boiled eggs are the best thing to have around when I just don't know what to do with those extra 100 calories I sometimes have at meals. Or if I have to eat on the run, throw a couple hard boiled eggs in a bag make a sandwich and I'm set.
Eggs are the best! And definitely one of my secret (or not so secret) weapons in my weight loss. |
Easiest way ever to have eggs for breakfast: Break two eggs into a microwave-safe mug. Add a little salt and pepper. Use a fork to scramble them up. Microwave on high for one minute.
Voila, instant hot scrambled eggs. You can also do these the night before and put them in a plastic container to take to work and reheat if you are pressed for time in the morning. This morning I had 3 microwaved scrambled eggs, plus a chocolate milk made from 12 oz nonfat milk, 1 oz cocoa, 2 packets Splenda blended up. That was my post-workout breakfast; before workout I had 4 oz nonfat yogurt, 4 oz nonfat cottage cheese, and 4 oz blueberries mixed up with some ground ginger. Fish oil supplement on the side. So this morning I have already had over 50 grams of protein! And I will definitely be full until lunchtime. |
I LOVE eggs, I eat them lots of mornings. I do egg beaters in a little microwave bowl and microwave for 1 minute to make an egg patty. Heat up some turkey bacon and/or cheese and put on an english muffin, toast or whatever and I have a quick egg sandwich.
I also love poached eggs and hard boiled eggs. I really have a new love for eggs. I never used to eat them very often - but now I love eating them. Also, a dozen eggs is pretty cheap! |
Hmmmm....Do microwaved scrambled eggs TASTE well? I don't ever wake up in time for breakfast (especially when I go to work at 6am), but I really should quit eating such sugary breakfasts..
