Default Starting this week off right!

The weather has been so crappy here in Austin for the past week. I have not been able to do my workouts outside with my exericise equipment. And I will think up any excuse to skip driving to the gym

But I went this afternoon and burned 450 calories. I am going to try and hit 4 workouts this week. I have a ton of healthy food in the house, so no excuses there to not eat right....salads, fish, vegetables.

Although I did get some cream cheese to bake a cheesecake. Hmmm, might skip that to avoid temptations. I can always bake it later closer to Christmas. No sense in sabatoging myself before I weigh in next week. My goal is 30 lbs by May. I want to try and get close. We are going to try and get pregnant with baby #2 after that, so I really need to get close to my goal weight before that happens again. So hard! But I think this is the ultimate mental challenge for me.

Alicia Have you tried working out inside the house with videos? If I didn't have this option, I probably wouldn't be able to workout very much.

Hey guys!

Looks like you all have had "power weeks". That's my term for when I'm going to have a power surge and lose my mind. Happened to me a lot at the beginning of this year. Haha.

I just submitted my third application for a postdoc earlier this afternoon (3 down 7 to go!!). Then I took a nap. I weighed in this morning and was SOOO happy to see 152.5. YAY! It's been almost 1.5 weeks since I saw that number last! Echo - I'm with you, hun. I haven't seen this low a number in...um...6 years? Yeah, something like that. This is insane!! I'm also hoping it's not a fluke. I keep thinking that tomorrow I'll see 165 and I'll be because my weight loss was all a dream.

So yesterday, hubby and I went to check out the apartment gym. It's TINY, but that's to be expected. He told me it had one stairstepper, one treadmill and some free weights. I was expecting this until we walked in and I saw a stationary bike, an elliptical, two treadmills and something like a bowflex where you can target multiple muscle groups for a whole-body workout. I totally gave him the side-eye and he said it must've changed since he was there.

Alright, off to the gym in a few minutes. It's too dark to take my long walk and I am SOOOO irritated with the dogs in my neighborhood!! They're either those pesky yappers (teacup "dogs") or the big labradors and it always seems like their owners are barely holding on to the leash. ARGH! I'm better off using the gym.

Today's food confession:

Breffix - 1 cup skim milk + 1 tbsp cocoa powder, instant oatmeal
2 slices wholegrain bread, 1/4 cup shredded, part-skim mozzarella
handful terra chips.
*I ate breffix at around 10 AM and I was RAVENOUS

Lunch - 3 Puris, bhajji

Snack - 1 banana, 1 handful terra chips

Dinner - omelette (1 egg white+1 whole egg), 2 slices wholegrain bread

Snack/Dessert - fruit thingies we got from costco.

Later gators!!

sunni, I hope you get the interview. way to go on the weight.

Diana, way to go on the workout.

Alicia, it's been pretty yukky here. I just bounce away on my rebounder. Find an indoor activity that works for you. I get too bored. I need a plethra of stuff. I also can't follow exercise videos worth a poop. I get mad at the little wii lady when she says "keep up with me now", and I'm going faster than her.

I got the riser for my wii, now I am going to get a really sore bum, and I know it.

Let's see...I have to study like all day. I tried to get lots of rest, because I am definitely sick with something--hope the duration will be short.

I jogged for 11 min on the rebounder through the island lap. I did HIIT. my heart rate fluctuated between 137 and 162.

breakfast: 1 sm banana, 1 pc honey dew, 1 yogurt whips, 7 assorted nuts, 20 pomegrante seeds.

I'm also drinking water with the seeds crushed in it. I can't bring myself to drink milk with a scratchy throat, so I skipped my breakfast shake.

Lunch was a little carb heavy:

Hawaiian bread: 200 cs; lentils: 80 cs, jasmine rice: 150 cs; honey dew melon; 100 cs; pomgrt: 30cs.

exactly one week left till my cousin comes! i'm looking forward to it

i will be on Hiatus for 3 weeks (lol) i wont be on 3fc much, cause i will be busy with my cousin. but will try to pop in from time to time

jendiet, i loved how you woke up 2lbs lighter! the rejuvenating powers of sleep! so important

hope the studying is going well! i know too well what being a student is like!

Alicia, burning 450 calories is brilliant! good for you. aww good luck with becoming pregnant. bless.

I agree with Diana. i workout at home with dvds. it works for me. it is too cold outside. and i cant afford a gym membership. but its more convenient to workout at home, all i gotta do is put on my workout clothes on and slip in the dvd.

lol @ powerweeks Sunni. i love that! and thanks! and awesome on your weight loss too!!! you've been doing so well! look how far we have come! hehe you've been with me for every step of the way!

congrats on submitting your applications fora postdoc. good for you! good luck on getting a postdoc! what subject are you gonna do your postdoc in?

i'm thinking of a change in fields from my phd subject. i have been tinkering about the idea of getting into nutrition and its affects on health. im really interested in the subject. i did some research on the net past couple of days. and either get into the research side of things about weight loss and obesity, or maybe go back to uni (gah!) and train to become a dietician (but before that will need to get a job to save up some money to pay for it)

i might just do some work experience as an assistant to a dietician to see if its something i want to do as a career. but only after my long holiday. i still feel all burned out after my phd. and i still have loads of things to do i have a long list, of everything i put on hold whilst i was studying.

but its something i'm going to research and look into. maybe contact some lab heads that work on nutrition and health or something its a totally new field for me, so will have to study on my own next year. i have a few books already that i want to read. and have access to the british library that holds every single journal in the world. which is handy! so lots of studying for me next year. but its a subject that im really passionate and interested in. and jillian michaels always says, find your passion and than follow it. so that's what im gonna do. im gonna find a career that i'm gonna be happy in. but first i need to find out what that is. i might go see a career advisor next year. i also need to learn to drive! thats at the top of my list. i kept taking lessons during my phd, but then had to stop cause phd stuff would suck up all my time. so thats the first thing i need to do!

Sunni, thats great you have access to a gym, even if its small.

Thanks so much Diana! so sweet of you and wow you're a machine doing all those workouts!! way to go

good luck for finals Jen! and good idea on hitting those vitamin C hope you feel better soon.

Hi Chickies,
I wanted to post my progress so far.

I have always been one to watch what I eat (try to make better choices), although I'm overweight.

July 14, 2009 I had an appointment with my endocrinologist. I decided I was going to make more of an effort to lose weight. I was going to pay closer attention to making better choices. I was tired of working my a$$ off and not losing any of said a$$. I weighed in at 269.

November 9, 2009 I joined you ladies here at Chicks. A friend, that is a member here, as well as a member at my other check-in at VF encouraged me to join here. I weighed in at 261. So basically I lost 8 pounds in the previous 4 months. Not great, but at least it's a loss.

December 9, 2009 Today is my 1 month anniversary mark at this check-in. Today I weighed in at 255.5. That's a 5.5 pound loss in 1 month!

I know I have done the work, but I would like to thank you for being here. The check-in has made me accountable and you have offered me the support that I have needed. I don't know what next month, next week, or tomorrow holds in my weightloss journey. I will be taking it one day at a time, sometimes one hour at at time. I know you all understand this, as you have been here, too. I am very proud of my progress and I wanted to share it with everyone.

Made it to the gym again today. So two days down this week, I am striving for 4. I did step class and it nearly killed me. I was stumbling around by the end of it and almost fell down a few times Managed to burn over 650 calories in an hour. My heart rate was over 170 practically the whole class. Whooo hooo! I will try to keep it up. Still in the 40s here in Austin so too cold to exercise with my equipment outside. And since I do pay for my gym membership every month....guess I'd better use it.

Did any of you guys see the final of The Biggest Loser the other night? I can't believe that guy lost almost 240 lbs in 7 months. Amazing!! Talk about hard work. I think I need to watch that next time it comes on. Sounds like inspiration.

3FC is kind of messed up on my computer. I don't know if it is some program I am running--but it looks terrible. Still I need my fix.

Last Final is over! Now I just have to get caught up on my online classes.

The final was hard! Much harder than any of us expected, but that was because she let us use our ipods. ouch!

I hope I got 5 wrong. If i did that it is a 95 and I keep my A in this class. It is not likely, but I can hope.

I had a terrible night. SO never came home from work. I called all of his friends-nobody had seen him. I expected it was something to do with his fire meeting until the clock hit 12am. I waited 2 more hours. Fell asleep. Woke up at 4:30 am. No SO!!! Freaking out, I called the cops. Told them about his fire meeting. The cop calmed me down and said the Coronaca FD was on a fire call all night, and was still at the fire then. After I hung up with him, SO called me. Apologized about not calling...grrrrrrrrr.

The cop called back and I thanked him so much.

Then I went back to sleep. 5am. a storm whipping around 60 mph was coming through. I thought we were going to get blown off the foundation! So scared. His mom called and woke me up. I turned on the news to see the monster crossing us. I prayed. It seemed like the winds just died down! Thank God! The storm shrunk and moved off to the East. Then I just thought ONE part of my day would go as planned. I could get Kiddo on the bus, and go home, study a little more, and then go take my final! Wrong again. Schools closed down for the day. Had to make alternate plans. By the time I got to the class, I was major irritable, 2 hours sleep behind me. And the test was a bomb! Then I was done with the final...still kind of groggy, and I ended staying over to help a classmate fix a situation with her test with the teacher. She really just needed prayer and moral support. Her ipod was broken during the test! OMG! She didn't tell the teacher. And she was stopped abrubtly trying to "bubble in" her answers. When I walked out she was in the parking lot crying. She had left at least 30 answers blank. You need to miss only 25 to pass the test. I consoled her and counciled her to go back in and explain to the teacher the ipod was broken and could she at least bubble in the rest of the answers. 25% chance is better than none!

Finally, the teacher let her. Then I finally got home, irritable, tired, and worried about losing my A in that class. Plus, my best friends had to pass the test, in order to pass the class, and they were telling me it wasn't looking good! I am so sad, worried. Tired, irritable. Just pray for me.

My calories were a little higher yesterday, I tried to stay away from comfort food, but i lapsed a few times. The hawaiian bread may be too much of a temptation for me.

When I got home, I laid down and had a 3 hour nap. No exercise yet, still really drained, and kind of have a headache...so we will see. My throat is alot better.

I am very passionate about health and wellness Echo. I have been personally studying homeopathy pretty much my whole life. I believe in a trilogy of wellness. Maybe I will submit my own nursing theory on it one day. But, First and foremost, Nutrition. When the body breaks down due to other factors, and you need a little more help, then comes homeopathy measures, supplements, herbs. Next, when the body is too far gone in it's break down, we need intervention of coventional meds. And only then. I know how much meds affect pts to the point they take meds for their SE of their other meds. Sad.

I was investigating the roles of Chromium, vinegar, and cinnamon on diabetes pt's in my own spare time. As you know insulin/blood sugar has much to do with obesity. Anyways, I had neighbors that were both juvenile diabetics. They were on Novolog and NPH insulins. Pretty expensive. Right before they had to move, my neighbor was in a crisis because he could not afford his meds. I gave him the bottle of ACV pills I had, a supplement specifically for diabetics (included bitter melon, cinnamon, chromium and other essentials). However, we took his b/s one day it was 500. I gave him the ACV pill. I told him to be careful because he may need less insulin while taking this, According to clincial studies. He had his NPH, but not his rapid acting. His blood sugar dropped by half within 30 min, and then his longer acting kicked in and brought it down even further. I asked him to please be meticulous in his insulin journal and let me know the results. He reported during the time taking the supplements his insulin needs were cut in half.

I have read many testimonials about ACV helping people lose weight and I don't think it is magic. I think ACV causes the blood sugar to not spike as much with meals, which in turn keeps the insulin down, and resensitizes the body to insulin in overweight people.

anyways, well, I am done rambling, I said all that to say! Go you Echo! That is awesome!

Well, I have had 220 cs so far, but I slept alot. I need to find something to my liking and eat, and maybe workout! lol. Still 173.0 today. Go away 170s!

Echo Thanks!

Jen It sounds like you had a rough day! I believe in homeopathy and supplements. DH is on a pile of meds for diabetes, triglycerides, and BP. The BP is nicely controlled with meds, but he still has major issues with diabetes and triglycerides. He has lost quite a bit of weight, but nothing has really helped with the diabetes. I have supplemented him with cinnamon, bitter melon, & GTF Chromium. There was never a significant change, so I did not continue it. I have not tried the ACV tablets. He is tolerant to regular ACV, so maybe we should try this.

That is the thing about the supplements, I really think the ACV is what was the kicker for him. They were juvenile diabetics too. Does your husband have type I or type II?

It would not hurt to try the ACV? How long was he on the supplements? Sorry for all the questions. Yeah, it is so funny, cause I take ACV with honey in a little water. But, I had these pills--homeopaths told me did not work as well as the liquid ACV, and he had good results with the pills.
