I recently read books called Syndrome X and Insulin Resistance Diet describing insulin resistance syndrome and some way to modify one's diet to correct the problem. Given my personal experience and how I react to eating a lot of carbs, it makes a lot of sense to me and even before I read these books, I've been naturally moving towards a diet where I eat more protein and less carbs (especially refined carbs).
One question I had is that Syndome X book recommends some supplements that I never really thought about and I was considering taking them. I will ask my doctor about the safety of these, but doctors don't always know or can tell you everything, especially when it comes to alternative medicines. The ones I was thinking are:
1. Lipoic Acid
Anyone else take any of these? Anyone feel like they make a difference in energry levels, weight maintenance/loss, etc.?
