Are you using some kind of wacky scale? Has it been consistent before?
Here's my list of things that can throw it off: time of day, clothing, surface scale is placed on, sodium, bathroom issues, water

I'm voting for the scale being wonky. It can't even be water, that's 4.5 liters!!

same time as every day, naked, just peed, etc. I had half a bottle of coke on tuesday? my legs are swollen from a 5K I did on Tuesday, I mean really swollen, like I can poke my shins and leave an indentation mark on my leg. I don't know what is going on. This is awful- 2 months of work down the drain and I didn't even have the pleasure of cheating?

Last Sunday I ran 6.5km, on Monday my thighs ached like ****, and even now my weight's still up a bit. My suggestion would be to keep on drinking lots and lots and hang on - give it a couple of weeks. Don't give up!

The nurse in me can't help it ... if you have pitting edema, you need to get to a doc!

I agree, besides swelling can add to that scale number, but if you're that swollen I would get to the doc asap as well.
Remember your weight fluctuates and if something is going on, i mean you said you are swollen after a 5K run, then that is going to show up in the numbers. My point is don't jump to conclusions, wait and see. You could be retaining water, not to mention the swelling, that pretty much can equal 7-10 pounds right there.
Still, if your swelling doesn't go down, you might want to go get checked out. Just to make sure you're okay.

Really? This is a medical thing? I thought it was water retention?

DON'T PANIC! If you're legs are very swollen and you can make indentations in them, you're holding a lot of water in those legs.
Sports med son says so.
I also agree with jacquie668

Well, just in case, I'm going to drop my salt intake seriously. I can go without it, no big deal. Its not as bad as it was last night but I still don't like it. I'm going to take a break from running until the middle of the weekend, stretch alot and drink a few gallons of water.

Yes. We all retain water but it shouldn't pit. It could be any of several simple things like vitamin or mineral imbalances. I hope so. Still ... I think you need a doc to check it out. Just to make sure it is something easily handled.

My mom pits like that on her legs, found out she had astronomically high blood pressure. Definitely get it checked out!
