When I watch Food Network, it makes me want to look up recipes on their website. Once I get involved in that, I can't stop clicking on links to other recipes. It drives me crazy for food, but I'm too distracted by more recipes to make any of it!

I find that watching other people work with food, or doing cooking myself, actually can KEEP me from eating when I'm snacky. Of course, it may sometimes trigger a craving, but usually it'll resolve itself quickly.

It's one of the top-watched channels in my house. I love watching for new ideas for flavor combinations...most of the recipes there can be made a LOT lighter, with way less oil, but using the same flavors.

I love it too! I like getting ideas for techniques as well. I've learned a lot about cooking and the science of cooking from some shows!

A whole network dedicated to cooking? Ooooh, that sounds so good, I would so watch that all the time!
Like Amanda said, not for exact recipes but for new ideas, flavors, ingredients and techniques.
Just because I am being careful with what I eat doesn't mean my food has to be boring and flavorless!

My hubbys new favorite show is "Man vs. Food" on the travel channel, and it is Food Pornography at it's best. The host could make a turd look good! I refuse to watch it. That show and many of the Food Network shows are not about cooking they are about restaurants that serve huge amounts of food. Many are not about cooking, they are about massive eating! I will not watch those types of programs anymore. It's too painful for me. I still like the good ol' "how to put it together" shows. I have a feeling if your BF is anything like my hubby it's not "cooking" shows on Food Network he enjoys...it's the "food" shows.

my husband and i saw some other shows on the travel channel (top 10 places to pig out) that also show crazy amounts of food. I never get the draw of that myself.

Yeah the Travel Channel has some pretty outrageous shows about extreme eating but I tend to think the Food Network is more about cooking, maybe not always cooking healthy but definitely not about extreme pigging out.

I am and always will be a foodie! I have started watching the cooking shows on FIT TV though. Some amazing ideas come across there that are "on-plan" for me. There are also some shows that are somewhat health concious on Food Network.

As a girl of the south, I do love Paula Dean. But her ingredient choices are unnecessary so I don't do her stuff anymore. For years, I prepared dish after dish from her suggestions though.
