Calorie confusion over friend's meal

Hello! I'm going to a meal at a friends house tonight. I know what she's making, and I'm trying to work out the calories now so I know how much I can have for breakfast and lunch. But I don't know the exact ingredients she's using or the portion sizes etc. Any advice? (PS This is a meal for 5 people that was arranged before I started on this)

Thanks :dizzy:

Document and calculate as best you can. All you can do is be mindful. When you get home ... put it all in your planner. Take your lumps.

Dinners like this don't happen every day PTL! You'll learn from each one.

Well said and agreed 100%. Do your best to make good choices and limit portions - just in case.

Have a good time and enjoy the good company. :)

Thanks guys. I've just calculated roughly and I'm left with 146 calories for today, and I haven't even included drinks :( Guess will be going over today then...

Don't worry - all you need to do is focus on small portions today, and keeping your calories in check tomorrow.

Yeah I will do, thank you! :D

And also don't feel like you have to eat *everything* that is put in front of you tonight! You don't have to clean your plate! Have fun!

I agree with Tyler -- don't feel it's inevitable to eat more than you want to!! you don't have to eat everything!

I've had dinners like that. Sometimes, to try to figure out the calories, I'll say things like 'wow, this is really delicious! can you tell me roughly what's in it?' It compliments the cook and gives me some additional info about the ingredients!

Oooh, that's clever. I like that and will be using it!

Or even go so far as ask for the recipe--the ultimate compliment! Then you can figure out the calorie count later.
