I ate 200 extra calories.. am I still good?

Sparkspeople recommend that I eat between 1,220 - 1,570 calories everyday.
For the past 2 weeks I have stayed close to 1220 cals.
Today I went for a 4 mile walk in the trails nearby. When I came back, I made some nice dinner for my family. I should have stuck to my original plan & just had my veggie patty & salad. Instead, I ate regular dinner with my family. I seem to have eaten around 1700 calories.

Am I still good?

I have been seeing great progress & don't want this to be a roadblock... please provide inputs. Will it help if I did double the excercise tommorrow or eat 200 calories less tommorrow?

You'll be fine. 1220 calories is just an average and it'll all even out in the end, as long as you stay on plan. Some people might even argue that having some variation is good for you, so your metabolism doesn't get used to these new calories, making your weight loss plateau. Also, 1220 is usually the average IF you haven't been doing physical activity like your four-mile walk. Don't stress out about it, eat well tomorrow, and regular dinner with your family can be a very good thing, so just enjoy it!

agreed with everything above ^

sparkpeople gave me the same budget (actually 1200 -1550, where's my 20 calories lol?!?) and I've stayed nearer the top end, average 1450 over the week, and am losing 2lbs a week. you're fine - remember not to go too low. I stalled at 1200, although I know everyone's different.

Dont try to compensate for it, just move on. 1220 is VERY low, possibly too low. 1700 occasionally is probably a good thing.

Thanks Everyone for the support & reassurance!

Yesterday morning I weighed 167.8. Today morning, the same time of the day, I am weighing 169.8. Did I gain 2 pounds or is it just due to water retention from the salty food I ate yesterday? Is it possible to gain 2 pounds overnight?

ennay 05-26-2009 09:57 AM

No it is not possible. To gain 2 lbs you would need to eat 7000 EXTRA calories above your maintenance amount

Water retention, absolutely. Either from salty food or from the walk yesterday, or a little of both. Can't gain two pounds overnight. :)

I didn't read the whole thread but MiniMo sounds straight up.

Oh yes--water retention or you haven't "moved" your dinner yet. Go for your walk and get lots of fiber, you will see it come down. Could be TOM as well. I gain for a couple of days at ovulation & TOM.

Thanks again! Before 3FC, I would have totally freaked & starved myself. Now I know better. I will drink lots of water and do some treadmill running.

I know how you feel. You get so caught up in the numbers that you forget that you have to live a life also. A four mile walk definately gave you the cushion you needed for those extra 200 calories.
