I am facing a little disaster today

I have a friend coming for lunch - we don't see each other very often, maybe 2-3 times a year (she lives elsewhere) and each year, she comes at Christmas time and it has been our tradition that make her a roasted duck. Since she had it the first time, she has always wanted it each year.
Now this year, somehow we didn't make around Xmas and the date kept sliding into the future - I was telling her one thing I don't want to do is to roast a duck with A/C on - so finally she is coming today. I looks like we will survive without A/C.

Anyway, it will be roasted duck with cabbage and dumplings - about 10,000 calories? :):?:
Good thing I burned 570 calories on the treadmill this morning.:smug:

Anyway, just wanted to quickly say hello to you all and wish you a wonderful Sunday. I had to crank up the puter in order to update my ticker (before I forget).

Just remember that it's only one day. You're doing very well and one day won't ruin everything. I have faith in your good judgement.

I know you don't know me but, Just enjoy your visit with your friend. Eat a small portion and after she leaves walk a bit more if it will make you feel better.Your doing great!!

Make some healthy side dish options - have a small serving of duck and cabbage and then fill your plate with the healthier options.

Maybe after you eat the 2 of you could go on a nice walk and visit. It's only one day and as long as you pick back up tomorrow you should be fine but if you're super worried that would help.

Yep, just eat a little bit of the duck and cabbage and make a big salad with lots of stuff in it on the side and some broccoli or something and hit that hard. Have fun!

Yeah, I'd go with healthy side dishes and only a tiny amount of the unhealthy stuff. Have fun with your friend!

Fill up on heaalthy stuff before she gets there and drink a ton of water so it is easier to take only a small portion! Then send her off with the leftovers :)

unless you are going to put something in/on the cabbage like butter or oil, then you can have as much cabbage as you want! as for the duck don't eat the skin and you can enjoy a smallish portion.

I think I will be fine. We had a big salad about an hour before lunch (because the silly bird did not want to defrost on time so it went in the oven later than originally planned) and I ate only very little. Dumplings had to be cancelled because I could not find the mix so I made a whole wheat pasta instead.
Of course the cabbage was thickened with roux that consisted of butter and flour - normally, I would have used olive oil but somehow, I can always taste it in the cabbage. I really make this only once a year for Rosemary, so no big deal.
I will take the dogs out for a really vigorous walk in about an hour, hopefully it will be a lot cooler than.
Thanks, chickies, for thinking of me.
