Default Does anyone else need to lose 100 lbs. like me?

Hi everyone,
This is my very first post. I am 308 lbs. and need to loose 100 lbs. or else.

This is my plan. I did a castor cleanse 2 days ago, and for 2 days now, am on this whey protein program. I have a shake at breakfast and lunch. and for dinner, I eat what my family eats for dinner, but a smaller portion. and lots of water and walking.

Attention to anyone who knows:
Is it possible to consume only whey protein shakes 3 times daily? I mean, no food? maybe just some raw veggies and fruit? I am dying to loose the 100 lbs. I want to take advantage of the summer and finally do it this time. any suggestions? would be greatly honored.

Monica

Hi! There is a whole group of people here who need to lose 100 lbs or more - the 100 lb club! We also have a 300+ club. Either would be great places to start.

Either of the plans you suggested probably wouldn't work long term. Your body needs a certain amount of calories to keep functioning. Now, if you go a little bit below that, you'll lose weight. Go a LOT below that, though, and you start running into problems. Your metabolism will slow down (we call that "starvation mode") and your losses will stop.

A more balanced plan might be like the plan you're on currently. Do you know how many calories a day that works out to? You may want to visit a site like www.fitday.com to find out.

In either case, Look around, ask questions, and get advice...this is a great place to get started!

Hi,
I am definitely no expert but it seems to me that is way too many shakes. I have never had one of those, but I would accept as a substitute for a meal if in a pinch with nothing else available, but not as something to practically live on. Also, you should have some snacks in between. Can you have a big salad with maybe some grilled meat for lunch instead of the shake? Or, make yourself a fruit shake (berries, bananas, etc.). Are you getting enough fibre with the liquid diet?

Smile Welcome ChubbsGalore

I can't add anything else to what Mandalin82 said except yet another warm (I hope you are feeling it) and on the new commitment to losing your weight.

We have so many different sub forums to check in on so I would suggest that you "sit in" on a couple here and there until you find one that "clicks" for you. The 100+ lb is a popular one and very active in posting. Great bunch of people and great posts! If you decide to follow a specific food plan besides the one you mentioned there are sub forums for those as well.

All I can say is again and hope to hear from you again and again.....

Welcome Chubs! Lots of folks here who need to lose 100 lbs or have already lost 100 lbs. I understand wanting to lose it all right away. I think we've all felt like that. But you want it to stay gone, right? You don't want to lose 20 lbs then gain it and friends back because you are eating things that won't sustain you, or doing a "diet" that feels like punishment that causes you to want to binge later.

There are so many different ways to eat to lose weight, and no way that is the only way. If you really enjoy the shakes (not something I like but that's just me), then sure you could have the shakes for breakfast with fruit or with a small whole wheat (for the fiber) bagel. A portion of protein (like the grillled chicken with veggies (such as the salad) would be a great lunch. The same type of thing at dinner. Things like low fat cheeses, nonfat yogurts, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, make good snacks.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to diets, we all have to find what works for us. But you are in the right place (stick around) and you sound very determined (which is key to success). Good luck and post lots, ok?

Dear jtammy and everyone else who is very supportive. I really love my shakes.... just like chocolate milk....when I go to Wal-mart, I used to always go to the dairy section and chug down a nes quik chocolate milk....now, that I have my shakes.... I love drinking them because in my mind, it taste no different than my nes quik....so, I have no problems there.... I love it.....
How far do you think I can walk in 2 hrs? My hubby bought me an ipod shuffle to use on my walks.... and because i love music so much.... I am motivated to walk.... My clothes size is 22w-24w........I want to fit into a 14w atleast....I am determined... And I know that I should be eating to.... thanks to you all, I just ate a delicious gala apple for a mid morning snack, and for lunch, I will do the salad thing....I thanks you all so much.....I will use your advise.

First of all Welcome.

Now take this with a grain of salt if you wish, because it is just my opinion, and some tough love.

What you are doing sounds very unhealthy to me. Our bodies need a variety of good foods to function properly. You seem to be looking for a quick fix and I'm sorry to say, but quick fixes just don't work. They may work for a short while but eventually you will find yourself back at where you started and most likely even heavier. It didn't take you one summer to put on 100 pounds, it definately won't come off over one summer!

Try tracking what you eat, learn what is healthy and what is not. Weightloss is a very simple science. You have to burn more calories than you eat. A pound is about equal to 3500 calories, therefore if you want to lose 1 pound a week you should eat about 500 calories less than you burn in a day... 2 pounds about 1000. There are many calculators out there in internet-land that can give you an estimate of what you burn in a day. Notice estimate is red!! None of the calculators are 100% right, each person is an individual and their needs are their own! You should never go below 1200 calories a day unless you are being supervised by a Dr.

I personally don't like the idea of meal replacement shakes. It does not teach you to eat healthy and make good choices when the time arrises that you need to make a choice over say a piece of fried chicken or a piece of grilled chicken.

Remember this is all just my opinion, take it as you wish.

Chubs, I know how desperate you feel right now, and understand your desire to get rid of the fat NOW. I have been there, and so have many members here.

You need to understand that taking the weight off and keeping it off is a life long effort. It requires patience and commitment. You cannot crash diet off 100 lbs and expect it to stay off. Furthermore, you will put your health at great risk by staying on a restrictive plan for the time it takes to lose 100 lbs.

The most successful losers here have changed their lifestyles...for life. They eat mostly healthy foods at healthy calorie levels for their bodies. The "diet" is never over. There is a new normal and that's how they live.

I've tried and failed more times than I can count. This time, I'm doing it for the long haul. There is no diet, there is only a calorie level that enables me to stay satisfied and my body to get what it needs to be healthy. I choose foods that nourish me and keep me steady. Even still, many days are a struggle. Some days the demons win, but most days they don't, and I eat foods I love that are also good for me. I never want to go back to the days of desperation and punishment mode mixed with years of out of control binging.

For 99% of us, once we lose the weight, the journey doesn't stop.
We can't just go back to the old, unhealthy way of eating.
The best thing to do is find healthy foods THAT YOU LIKE and can see yourself eating long-term. If you love your shakes, it's fine to have them in moderation, but IMHO you shouldn't be getting the majority of your nutrition from them. When I very first started to try to lose weight, I started drinking Slim-fast, and after I got tired of them, I just wanted to eat everything in sight.

Oh, by the way, I think EAS Advantage makes the best shakes, nutritionally speaking (quality protein). Just make sure you get the lite version. And Wal-Mart carries a knockoff that isn't *as* good, but still pretty good. Don't know exactly which one, but it's generic.

What everyone else has said ... and welcome!

I don't think you'll find anyone here who will give you advice on what to eat to lose 100 lbs in a few months or who will say it's ok to rely on shakes and veggies only for your weight loss. What you will find are people who are willing to give you honest advice and support and help you find a path that works for you!

You can see by my ticker that I want to ultimately lose 100+ lbs and I'm about 2/3 of the way there. It has taken me about a year to lose the 70lbs I've lost already ... yes I could have done it faster and remained healthy, but I also would have felt deprived and lost my motivation. The way I'm eating and exercising now is a lifestyle change. I don't deprive myself, but I don't overindulge either (except every once in a rare while).

What have I done to change and lose weight?

1 - Exercise. The very first single most important life change I made was exercising every single day. I do something. I go to the gym 3-4x a week whenever possible. If I can't go to the gym, I walk around my neighborhood, or climb stairs, or do situps while watching tv, or something. Right now I'm working on the New Rules of Lifting for Women program which is awesome.

2 - Measure and track every single bite that goes in my mouth. If I lick the jam off the knife when I make a sandwich, I track it. I was amazed at how much food I was eating just in a bite here and a bite there. I was also amazed at how I had no idea what a real portion size was. When I saw what a serving of pasta was (1 cup) vs. what I was eating in a meal 4-5 cups ... wow. That was a huge eye opener!

3 - Cut back on eating processed foods. I cut out as much of the pre-packaged food as I could - even if it's "good for me" or "diet" related. I try to eat "whole" foods rather than something someone else prepared and froze or canned in a factory.

I found this site after I'd lost a good 60 lbs ... and the women here have helped keep me on track since then. I wish I'd found the site earlier - cause wow, there's a great group of women and tons of info here! So you're already ahead of the game in that respect!

I think we all want to lose weight as quickly as possilbe and as easily as possible, but the majority of the time it doesn't work like that. I know that losing over 100 lbs seems daunting at first, but it does take time and, as time goes on, it gets easier. I agree with what findingfawn said, liquid dieting doesn't teach you to eat properly and teaches no portion control, that's probably why you see a lot of regains with them...you never learn how to fuel your body properly and go back to your old eating habits. As for VLCD's, they can be dangerous, they were popular in the 70's and 80's when protein shakes first became available...but lots of health problems were seen too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Very_low_calorie_diet
Whatever you decide to do, just pick something that you enjoy and something that you can stick with. If you enjoy doing it, you're more likely to stick with it and continue on for the rest of your life. Everyone on here is really nice and extremely supportive, you'll definitely get there if you stick around. Best of luck to you!
