Those .5's on the scale?

Those .5's on the scale? I have a digital scale, and today it was 166.5, of course I want to be down a lb so I'm counting it as 166. Just wondering if it might be less irritating to go to a different scale, are they called analog, where it's just a dial and doesn't register the .5's. Or maybe I need to move up in technology and have one register the .1's... I'm just rambling. Anyone else thing being "half way" between pounds is irritating?

I always round up until i see a ".0" !! I can't get ahead of myself!

I think a half a pound is better than nothing. :) I don't mind them on my digital scale, and I record them on my ticker when I get one. However, I never round up. Then the next week I might cheat myself out of losing anything because I "fooled" myself the week before by pretending as if I had lost half a pound that I didn't.

My scale doesn't have a 0.5 option--it measures in .2 increments. I used to round up if it was 0.6 or over, and down if it was 0.4 or under. But I found that wasn't working, and it was making my losses look "real" when they weren't. So now I don't round--and it has to get to .0 before I consider that I'm down a pound.

Weighing once a week for tracking purposes seems like a really good idea.

I record whatever the first 3 numbers are... if it says 213, I says 213 it is says 212 I say 212 doesn't matter what the ounces are. I keep an eye on them throughout the week but only record my weight on Thursdays, this works for me as it would read the first 3 numbers if it was a non-digital scale.

I go by exactly what my scale says. .5 is .5 less I have to lose.

horsey 02-15-2008 01:10 PM

Then I'm not really down a pound if I rounded down today. Oh well... I think weighing once a week is better then daily. It's irritating.

Or maybe I'll do a Mon am weigh, then a Fri pm weigh, to see how I did after a weekend, and at the end of a week. I seem to do better during the week.

I say as long as you're rounding consistently, then either way is fine.

I HATE that little number-oooooh it makes me mad sometimes! Especially if it's XXX.1-Dang! so close.

Mine also goes by .2 .4 .6 and .8. Most times i always record the whole number on my calendar. I record my weight every day on my calander just so i can see how weight can fluctuate. I don't let the .#'s bother me one way or another. I consider 131.8 to be 131 and a half but it's still 131 no matter what the points are. But when they go in .2 .4 .6 and .8 i know there are 16 ounces in a pound so i have to assume that .8 is half a pound. But either way...if it says a number .something....then i would actually count it as that first whole numbers and not really worry about the points that much.

Mine measures in .2 increments. I always record it exactly - funny that my weight this week fell on a round number on the dot.

Robin41 02-15-2008 03:56 PM

I just write down the exact number. To me, rounding down is giving myself credit for weight that hasn't been lost yet. If it's still on me then it gets counted.

Every ounce that is gone counts so I'm never irritated about any number that is lower than it was the last time I weighed.

amouse 02-15-2008 05:32 PM

i always include the points.. every point counts :) lol

Oh I might just go get a simple scale without the .5 and definitely without the .2. This one irks me, I have to get on and off it just to get my weight several times. It's too much technology. And I think I'm showing more progress in the way my clothes fit then the darn scale anyways. This scale is leading to obsessiveness and I'm fine with the gradual weight loss, although I would like to rev it up the next few weeks and month for a birthday. Seems like the books/weight loss experts are saying weigh once a week only, and then weight can fluxuate so much even in a day, it's impossible...
