Binge eating

  • Nothing new here, just a post to keep me honest.

Last night I ate 2 or three or four cups - who knows?- of animal crackers. I ate a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter - would have been more, but the jar was almost empty. I ate a piece of bread with that icky sandwich cheese. Because of lack of peanut butter, I ate a half a cup or so of cashew nuts. Yikes.

I don't know what brought this on. I had lots of healthy things I could have been eating. It was just like, "Oh, I should be eating all this stuff right now. Get busy!". So I did.
  • Wow.

The worst part of that is the "icky" sandwich cheese... it sounds like you didn't enjoy that at all...

And you have no idea why?

Well--today is a new day! Might as well move on--because what's done is done. One bad day doesn't ruin everything, as long as you get back on plan!

  • I've had days like that. I'm starting to recognize what kinds oc days are going to be trouble. When I'm in that "don't wanna" mode, I find it's too late... but sometimes I can head those moods off BEFORE I start binging. Not always, but sometimes. Also, my binges now are shadows of their former selves... progress.

So, got up, dust yourself off and move forward. As Jay asked, can you figure out why??
  • I am thinking that maybe I haven't been getting enough protein. I have been eating smaller amounts of meat and, as it happens, I ran out of both fluid milk and non-fat dry milk. I have lots of cooked, frozen chicken breast so I am thawing some out to nibble on.

I am not really a binge eater, in general, so I was sort of surprised by this!
  • Hey Gail! I think you may be right about the protein. Of course, eating carb foods doesn't solve the protein hunger, so it's easy to keep on eating...

If there is one food group that most women neglect, especially older ones, it seems to be protein.

    Don't skimp on the chicken!

    Jay
  • That's a good guess. Give it a try and see if it helps.

This really is trial and error!

    Good luck!

That's exactly what I thought when I read the list of foods were were eating. It sounds like your body is craving protein and fat. Are you getting enough fat in your diet?
  • I have been immersing myself in re-reading/studying the book Thin for Life, by Anne Fletcher. I think I might have overdone that, too. I keep waking up in the night thinking about "will I be able to do this?" Then, because I am awake, I start worrying about "Am I hungry right now - am I going to eat something I don't want?" Yada, yada.....

Anyway, I did fine yesterday - I ate extra chicken and added a can of clams to my diet soup at lunch. No starvation and no eating at night. All good!
