Default Yet another indication that we are all different...

Recent NYT article indicating that not all people respond to exercise the same way and what works for me might not work for you. I still plan to err on the side of exercise and eating whole foods.

Summary: The human body - it's complicated.

That is interesting. I am with you though, I will err on the side of exercise. If for no other reason than I love the endorphins HAHA

That article was interesting, but 175 people is a teeny sample size, and two days of exercise a week is so minimal. Rather than assume that some unfortunate people get neither cardiovascular nor muscle-building benefits from exercise, the researchers should look more deeply at the parameters of their research.

This article caused me to have a minor meltdown on my hamster-wheel (exercise bike) when I first read it; I kept thinking, "what if I'm just fooling myself? What if I'M one of the ones who can't be fixed!? OMG, must...peddle...faster!" I'm still worried about it, just a little, even though I know it's silly.

I am such a ninny.

I think I am what's called a slow responder. I do make gains, but they are slow. It doesn't stop me exercising, but if I am building to a goal I now know from experience that it takes longer than it might take some others (whom I run or bike with, for example).

I was really curious about the ones who were WORSE off at the end of the study! I can understand people responding differently but if they were healthy people and their test results actually got worse?? Maybe I will use my university library access to try to read the original publication. The summary article also didn't say whether the participants' exercise was monitored or whether they were given any training, or whether they were just sort of given an instruction sheet and sent to do it themselves. I think it could make a big difference individually depending on how hard they exercised, or whether they were doing it properly or not.
