  • I don't really think the study shows anything useful in the real world. I avoid added sugars myself but how does the effect of eating fruit have on fat building? Fructose is mixed with fiber in nature. Also,the fact remains that if you ate less calories than your body used then you would burn the calories from the fructose. Then of course even if fat synthesis is faster, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen with glucose/sucrose.
  • It is interesting. I don't think that fruit really qualifies, even though it has fructose in it - there are other sugars in there (plus fiber and such), so it has a different effect on the body than consuming straight fructose in drink form.

    The other issue with the study is that it was conducted with lean, healthy individuals. No one knows what the effect of fructose is on overweight individuals, but it wouldn't surprise me if overweight people moved fructose to fat faster, as studies have shown that they do process foods differently.

    It just shows how little we really know about obesity and its causes.
