Default Caffeine and Blood sugar level link?

This is interesting. I cut out caffeine a few months ago and I'm glad for it but it looks like there may be good reasons to cut it out if you have diabetes or insulin issues.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Cutting down on caffeine could help people with the most common form of diabetes better control their blood sugar levels, researchers said on Monday.

Giving caffeine to a small group of people with type 2 diabetes caused their levels of the blood sugar glucose to rise through the day, especially after meals, researchers at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, found.

"Caffeine appears to disrupt glucose metabolism in a way that could be harmful to people with type-2 diabetes," James Lane, a Duke medical psychologist who led the study, said in a telephone interview.

This is why the human body amazes me...so many interlocking parts that have odd effects on one another.

As a related piece of information, another study found that heavy coffee consumption was associated with a reduced risk of developing diabetes. Decaf also had some benefits.

They don't appear to be mutually exclusive. If you don't have diabetes, consuming coffee may help lower your risk of developing it. But if you do have it, the caffeine in the coffee might negatively impact your blood sugar.

Caffeine has both positives and negatives, like most things,
