Where can I find good vegetarian recipes?

I have been a vegetarian for the last 5 years and I still apparently don't know how to cook without a recipe, and when I do find a good vegetarian recipe it costs $40 to make! Do you know of any good vegetarian cookbooks or websites that have good recipes, that don't have a million ingredients? Or do you have any favorite recipe that you would like to share? or tips on vegetarian cooking? Thanks!

I just used google to find recipes, though it can take a lot of time because you have to go through a ton to find ones that are appealing to you and and there are some out there with weird ingredients. I found tons that are healthy and relatively simple, though some end up tasting better than others!

www.supercook.com is helpful usually!

I know they are vegan but I would look at the cookbooks Supermarket Vegan and Vegan on the Cheap. Vegan on the Cheap gives estimated costs per recipe. Supermarket Vegan is a cookbook focused on average ingredients that you can find in any supermarket.

Nava Atlas also has a few vegetarian/vegan cookbooks that have recipes with 5 ingredients in them. I'd look into her cookbooks. Any of these you should be able to find at a local bookstore to peruse but also you might want to check your local library.

Lastly, I love blog.fatfreevegan.com. She has a bunch of recipes that are really issue and even has some she calls "Ridiculously Easy" recipes.

i use vegweb.com its a pretty huge database of recipes that is constantly being added to by everyone that goes there. There are a lot of vegan recipes though but its pretty easy to "resubstitute" some of the ingredients like soy milk for cows milk and so forth.

I like http://theppk.com/recipes/

I also have her cook book, Vegan with a Vengeance. And Vegan Cupcakes Take over the World, and Veganimonicon. VWAV is the best. Cheap and easy.

Yes, its vegan, but they are vegetable based so healthier IMO. I hate those vegetarian cookbooks that are just a bunch of egg/cheese caseroles and pasta bakes.

www.101cookbooks.com is entirely whole foods vegetarian. I also have her cook book, Super Natural Cooking. And if you use Facebook, you can like the 101Cookbooks page and get the new recipes in your news feed.

Yeah, VWAV is my favorite cookbook ever. I bought a signed copy I love it so much :)

@Nelie,

If you click on the PPK link, she has a new cookbook coming out - and it's all low fat whole foods recipes! I am excited!!!

I don't specifically try to eat lower fat, but the recipes in general look lower calorie (she includes calorie counts on the sample recipes) She says she wrote the book for herself after being diagnosed with PCOS.

Can't find a release date, but very excited for this one! http://theppk.com/books/appetite-for-reduction/

Release date is end of the year, Christmas time. I was a tester for that cookbook and it is awesome. So many good recipes.

I visit www.vegetariantimes.com quite a bit for recipes. I love that they include nutrition data.

"How to Cook Everything Vegetarian" by Mark Bittman is one of the most comprehensive vegetarian cooking guides (it's much more than a cookbook) I have ever read and I've scoured hundreds of them. First I borrowed it from the library and renewed it until they wouldn't let me anymore, then I got it for a birthday gift.

It has endless recipes, variations on all of them and tremendous detail on the various ways to prepare all the different vegs and fruits.

I can't recommend it enough.
