Thumbs up Sloppy Joes!?

So I bought a box of 'Fantastic World Foods- Vegetarian Sloppy Joe Mix'. I actually bought it because it was $1.50, yeah total deal and vegan friendly.

Well let me tell you.. DELICIOUS! Mmmm... sooo good, even my non vegan roomie had seconds! There was enough for 4 big, or 5 medium sloppy joes.

1/2 cup serving: 120 calories/ .5g fat/ 9g protein

Throw it on a wheat bun with some onion and a nice low calorie food!

I bought it at Food Lion, I do see that it is also online, and at a lot of natural food stores

Even if I wasn't vegan-vegetarian these were super yum and low cal! I'm so glad I found them.

I was JUST thinking about sloppy joes when I saw your post! I really like the Fantastic brand, but I've never found them that cheap. Right now I'm looking for a recipe to make them from scratch.

I like the fantastic foods brand sloppy joes and taco mix myself.

Darby - Do you have v-con? The snobby joes are quite tasty. If you don't I can post the recipe later on. I like the prepackaged stuff for convience but try not to do to much of it. The v-con ones are made from lentils and the recipe is easily modified to suit your tastes.

I know that the Shop N Save's here in Missouri have both the taco mix and sloppy joe. And even though I am an omnivore (with vegetarian leanings) I find both of these to be very good products. So easy to fix when you come off of a 10 hour shift with an 1 1/2 commute! Soak in hot water, hit the elliptical, when done cook the stuff with onion and some tomato sauce.

2 thumbs up!

I make sloppy joes from TVP, which is really cheap in the bulk bins at our co-op. I have a recipe somewhere, I might have to dig it up. Mostly I think it's TVP, water, ketchup, peppers, onion, garlic, worcester (veg, natch, I like Annie's organic) and spices. Sometimes I add a little liquid smoke. Easy to throw together in the slow cooker and you can feed a lot of people for very little $$.

Jill- I love the fantastic foods stuff, well, most of it anyway!!! You should try the natures burgers too- they are good, but way better if you add your own seasonings... I am not vegan but vegetarian so I added some jalapenos and some ranch dressing mix to them and they were sooo good.. I was thinking how they could probably be used to make fake crab cakes as well... maybe by adding some of that old bay seasoning or something!!! so many options a great starter product! I plan to get some the next time I go to Krogers!

For those of you interested I have seen these at...
Food Lion
Kroger
Whole Foods
Publix
The sloppy joes are my favorite though
