Cookies - burning - okay this one is pretty evident on what goes wrong ;-)
bread/dough - never seems to rise correctly, I haven't tried since I've been vegan though to be honest. maybe my moral superiority will make it rise (totally being a smart *** here guys )

I have been uber craving cupcakes and think I might try making them soon as I can't find premade vegan ones here in Charlotte. Certainly not on the plan but I can make a tiny batch ;-) We'll see how this experiment goes.

Maybe the yeast you used wasn't good? Always check the expiration date, and I like to proof my yeast in warm water to make sure it's good before I start making anything with it. It helps to make sure that it stays warm and moist when rising, it will speed things up. Maybe you aren't being patient enough? As long as the yeast is still alive, it should do its job just fine if you give it enough time.

I got some jalapenos at the farmers market here last weekend. I'm assuming WI peppers are fine. IMO, all these produce scares are further proof the animal agriculture is ruining the food supply (and environment) for everyone.

Russos is our new home away from home. it's a locally owned fresh market with super prices. yesterday our cart consisted of

thai chile peppers
poblano peppers
cabbage
green leaf lettuce
baby bok choy
peaches
pears
pluots
summer squash assortment
fresh bean sprouts
grapefruit
pink lady apples
blackberries
cucumbers
eggplant
yellow onions
bananas
a tub of fresh sauerkraut made in NY
and a hunk of ginger root

i too get hella excited at the sight of produce and have a tendency to forget i'm shopping for two and overbuy. made some stuffed poblano peppers as soon as i got home. mmm mmm good... and now is the perfect time for peaches also mmm mmm good.

Omg I just shop for one and ALWAYS buy too much. My roomie appreciates though as she ends up with bonus food at times. Thank god the doggies like almost all fruit and veggies too!

nope, shananigans, i freak out about veggies too! If it's the first of the season, or an heirloom variety of something I haven't seen in awhile, anything like that.
