I am not normally an organic buyer, mainly due to cost but they had some carrots on the reduced bit in Sainsbury's today...now am attempting to eat a raw one now. Am I going crazy or are they much tougher than non organic ones?

No, they shouldn't be - unless they're selling off last seasons carrots.
