Welcome to the MB everyone.

tobetheman - if you look at a map of Europe you will see an island group on the extreme left hand side, divided from mainland Europe by The Channel - thats where we live.

I love reading threads about fish and chips and pies - me and DH used to own a chippy and I guarantee that you can have too much of a good thing. I NEVER want to have pie and chips or fish and chips ever again (but I still like curry sauce though!).

(And I adore proper mushy peas)

Oh god I'd kill for a pork pie right now, with branston pickle!! I had stand pie at christmas with branston, mmmm, so good.

The yanks don't know what branston pickle is! Or picalilli! OR pork pie!! When I first got here I was pining for fish and chips so my hubbie brought home the US version from Long John Silvers, bless him he was trying but they tasted bloody awful!

There is a supermarket chain called Publix here in the South, not sure if they are nationwide. Apparently they stock british goods like branston, or so an Englishlady who lives in Florida told me. There is one near me, I will have to check it out and see.

The problem with mushy peas is that you have to have them on chips or something else deep fried. I did recently try making some to go with home made fishcakes (mashed potatoes and cod seasoned with fresh herbs shaped then sprayed with that low fat oil stuff and baked) but just it wasn't the same without all the deep frying fat and it wasn't Low GI - but okay for a change though.
