I am 5'5" and when I was 15 stone I was a tight size 18. In fact that was one of the things that made me start losing - I didn't want to have to bite the bullet and buy size 20 clothes.

I have been down to 9 stone and was a loose 8 - by that I mean 8s were loose on me, which was scary actually.

Right now I am 12 stone 10 and am in a 14, or a 12 if it is loose-fitting. Can't get into fitted 12s though so I would say 14 is about right for me at the moment.

I have bin bags full of cute 8s and 10s I can't wait to get back into *sigh*

I'm 5'8. At 240lbs I was a UK size 22, at 220lbs I was UK size 20, at 200lbs I was UK size 18. Currently 190lbs and my size 18s are very comfortable / slightly baggy. I don't spend time building muscle, if I did I suspect that like the OP I'd already be a much tinier size. Someone once told me that on the BMI scale professional rugby players weigh-in as morbidly obese, but nobody's telling them to lose weight... Muscle is heavier than fat, it's also great for the metabolism, so if the OP would feel good about herself at her high-ish, slim-ish goal then I should think that's good enough.

I'm 5ft4 and at 20 stone wore a size 22 from M&S and New Look Inspire. At around 16.5 stone I was in an 18 from New Look Inspire. I gather their clothes are cut generously though

Oh, dress sizes are ridiculous. At my heaviest, I think about 10 1/2 st (on me that's edging into the obese category, look at my height) I was usually a 12, and right now I'm about a 10. When slim I'm a 6-8. IN GENERAL. I have a dress that's too small for me that's a 14, and I'm hunting for waistcoats on eBay and guessing that I'm going to be a 16 in those due to having a 38" bust. I also have a size 6 shirt from H&M that fits, albeit straining a bit over the bust (I'm busty), and a huge size 6 cardigan that is big even on my size 16 sister-in-sin. I've never been muscly, I developed ME at the age of 19 so exercise is out of the question for me.

Congrats on all the muscle building! Someone I know says she's gained about a stone and lost quite a few inches due to regular exercise. Would you find it easier to work by measurements instead of weight?

When I was 14 1/2 stone and age 18 i wore a size 12-14 comfortably....but I am 5 ft 11.

I got down to 15 stone when I was 25 and couldn't get below a size 16...go figure!

Im pretty sure as you get older your figure become more womanly, but honestly I think clothing stores in the UK change sizes and size labels all the time to trick us! Xx

I mean, I've looked at other dress size/weight threads and even the tall women weren't at a 14 at 210lbs! I apparently was muscular under all the fat, I was/am freakishly strong and I appeared "smaller" than I was (people guessed I weight more like 12 or 13st. I guess that's why even tight or small 14s fitted me? The muscularity? See, I didn't regularly work out though or do any sport/exercise. What gives? Can people be "naturally" muscular? Btw, I have a large frame. My wrist is 7.5inches around! Very large frame.

I was just curious what your weight and corresponding dress size is and if there's anyone like me out there who's around 15st and a UK size 14? My goal size is 10/12, I'm guessing I'd only have to lose another 20-30lbs to get down to that. However, I'll still be very very overweight for a 5ft 4 woman at 180lbs. What should I do? Keep losing until I'm a healthy BMI?
yes . keep losing weight .for only for beauty also for health . to be beautiful and sexy are anyone wants no matter men or women . so .just do it

I am 5ft 6 and currently weigh 12st 6 - 174lbs and I am between a size 14 and 16. However I am a small build - wrists are 5.5 inches around. My goal is to be a size 10/12.... so I reckon I am looking at somewhere between 10 and 11 stone.

I totally agree. As you mature your hips widen and bust and back broaden even if you stay the same weight. From a personal perspective I find rounded hips, bottom and fuller boobs far more sexy than when I was in my early twenties and quite straight up and down.

My sister weighs 14st odd, and is a size 14. She's about 5ft 7in.

I weigh 14st odd and am a size 18 at 5ft 5in. We carry our weight in different places though - hers is distributed equally where mine goes right to my bum and thighs, and then everywhere else.

I find it a bit unfair though - I need to weigh 11 stone to be a size 14.

Im simular to your, but in reverse....I carry a lot of weight on top, boobs, arms, neck and face. Im wearing an 18 bottoms and 20-24 on top at the moment.

The thing is...I don't worry about the labels...i dontthink you can. I can walk into shops now and literally be anything from a 14 in stretch leggins from new look to a loose and flowing 26 shirt for yours.

I get weird looks from fitting room assistants when im tryong on one top in 5 different sizes...but I never know what im going to be. Even sizing within one shop can vary 3-4 sizes depending on how the clothes are cut...bloody minefield!, x

I'm not sure if it's the same in the UK, but a lot of US sizing moves around, so I would fit into a US size 8 sometimes and a 10 other times. US stores purposefully mark the sizes down so you feel better about yourself and buy their clothes... which is annoying when you're trying to find something that actually fits.
We have a lot of shops that give international sizes here, their labels show a US size 10 is a UK size 14. I'd rather be a 10 to be fair! But we do have the same thing with sizes - they're never the same from one place to another.

Hay Violeta,
I know this post is from last year but it really made me think about the type of situation I am in. Not at a size 14 (UK) however, but at 308lbs (22st) I am in size 22/24 clothing. Sometimes I can wear size 20 Primark clothes, size 22 in Yoursclothing or Newlook, size 24 or even a 26 in some other shops depending on clothing item cut. But all in all I am mostly a 22 average. When I search for a possible average weight for someone wearing a size 22, it all seems to come up with people around the 18-19st mark. Now that is 3 to 4 stone lighter than me.

Like you mentioned, I am also pretty strong and fit at the core. Not long ago I could run rings around my best friend who was a size 10.

Luckily it means that most people cannot guess my weight.... but it does mean that if they found out it would be a major shock.

I've just left 17st 3.5lb and having to buy 22/24 clothes I'm 5'2" (have shrunk since my 20's.. I'm 43 now and have had 2 children). Even when I'm down to 11 stone I'm still a DD cup.. I'm an E cup at the moment - so my weight is all on my hips / belly.
I have competed as a power lifter till last year, and ride horses so am pretty muscular - I still have good biceps and strong legs (I do kickboxing and tai chi as well as riding still - but have given up weights as can't afford a 2nd gym and no free weights at the leisure centre we belong to).

My daughter is 16 now, not overweight and a DD cup too.. so figure must play a part I think.
