Try to eat mainly whole foods (vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds). Avoid sweets, refined carbs, and deep fried foods.

If you find it difficult to completely change your diet, you can use your current diet as a starting point, and make small changes to make it healthier. If you want to post a list of foods that you eat, I'll let you know if I have any suggestions.

Hi,

It's tough to know where to start with so much conflicting information around... There are some fundamental things to focus your energy on. First, is being aware of calories. I know that sounds like a chore, but once you've made the effort in the beginning, it gets easier and is the method that will be completely reliable forever. This is a fact that has never changed and never will so its worth getting to grips with.

Work out the calories you need each day to maintain your current weight then reduce that total by 10-15% to begin with (there are lots of calculators available - or Ill work it out for you if you're not confident). What you eat and when are far less important than sticking to the totals so nothing is off limits, you just have to work on balancing what you enjoy with feeling satisfied all day.

Second thing is activity. The main goal of exercise in the beginning, (I prefer to use the word activity) should to make you feel better, rather than to burn more calories / fat. So focus on anything you enjoy walking, dancing, wandering around the shops, cycling, whatever, it doesn't matter. Start small and regularly, the time and intensity is less important than actually just getting on and doing something, just make sure it makes you feel good. 10 minutes à day is enough to get started.

There are other things to consider, but they are only variations of the things above so don't worry too much right now. Focus on starting the process and making the journey enjoyable.

Any questions, let me know.

Good luck!
