Pump is a group class to music that works all the major muscle groups in turn using weights and lifting them in certain choreographed sequences led by an instructor. It's fun!

I will lift heavier weights as and when I get stronger and better technique, I need to up them from time to time to keep pushing myself.

Sounds like a fun class, well as fun s intense exercise can be lol

Yea form is so important, better form with a lower weight is better than jumping to higher weights but rushing the reps. some great videos on U tube which helped me sot my form out

I'm a zumba fan. I love the fun factor of it, it doesn't feel like exercise as such just dancing about with others.

I have recently started going to the gym and try to go at least twice a week (other commitments do not allow me to do it more often). I usually do 20 mins treadmil, 10 cross trainer and about 20 mins on a bike...it is a bit borning but I'm not too sure what other excercises to do. Any suggestions how to break that routine? Thanks

I took up yoga a few weeks ago, which I now love I try to get to 1 hour classes twice a week. I also go the the gym twice a week, but like agusiaem I am stuck in a bit of a rut! I usually do 10 mins treadmill, 30 mins cross trainer and 20 mins bike, then I work my arms a little usually using two of the weight machine things! Does anyone have any ideas on how I can vary this?

Definitely need to work on adding in more exercise!

I'm just focusing on doing SOMETHING. Lol! We don't really have the money for Zumba or the gym so I got a 2nd hand cross trainer off freecycle and have changed my spare room into a mini gym. I've gone from dying after 15mins on it to being able to do 30mins on it after only 1 month. I use it 3-4times a week which suits me (and my husband who gets time alone to play skyrim). I'm hoping to get up to an hour by the end of march which I think should be achievable.

I've just spent the last few hours writing myself a graded re-entry programme.

I'm starting with a bit of cardio as that is where I am most lacking. 20 minutes 3 times a week and absolutely no more - I will not be able to keep it up if I fly into it like I did last time

After 2 weeks I will build in some resistance work. Luckily I have bands at home, so I will only need to go to the gym 3 times a week for the cardio.

They have a light punch bag so I will start to practice punches and kicks - more form than contact. I'll grade that up over about a month until I am happy I can go back to my heavy bag at home.

In between days, after 2 weeks, I will add in some belly dancing/yoga/wii hula hooping style stuff, I need to get wriggling too

Hopefully I won't be tempted to overdo it again. If I stick to the programme it will be fine.... I know it, I just need to believe it and do it!!

Just joined a gym, not a clue what im doing, mostly older men there and I guess in the evenings there will be the bros, they don't do any fun classes but I get enjoyment from pushing myself harder.

I really always have enjoyed exercise I used to walk cycle and started jogging but it was too sporadic.

Today I did 25 mins at 4.5 kmph on the treadmill and 15 mins on the elliptical, tomorrow I want to do the same with an incline and try the rowing machine and spin bike..
a few light weights, although I don't know how to use the weights doh.

I cycle & walk. I used to walk quite a bit more then I do now, but we moved house, and so I don't have quite as far to walk anymore. I do at least 40 minutes of reasonably fast walking a day, sometimes more. I also have an exercise bike at home, so I use that for 45 minutes at quite a fast pace (16-17mph) at least 5 days/week.

I need to start doing some weight training though because I'm pretty happy with the number on the scale I just want things to firm up a bit more now.

Give yoga sun salutations a try - you can find them on you-tube. Breathing control, cardio, and strength all in one
