1st week of dieting :D
Hello again. I started dieting last Thursday, and then I was 238. I weighed myself this morning, and my weight is 227 That's an 11lb loss
I am over the moon about this, but I am a bit worried about losing too much, should I be?

Wow! I started two weeks ago tomorrow at 240, and I only lost a pound and a half my first week. I must say I'm jealous!
I have heard that it is normal to lose a significant amount the first week you change your diet. I've also heard it can have something to do with sodium and water retention.
I say take it and run with it!

Congrats on starting your new lifestyle and your initial success!
As Paris said, the initial weight lost is often in water weight. This is not to dishearten you, but to remind you to keep it in mind if/when your weight loss for weeks two, three, four, and/or five slow. Loss of 1-2 lbs a week is very common for most people and is a great, healthy pace. So definitely don't be discouraged if your 11 lb loss slows- you are still doing a great job!

Welcome and congratulations! The two possibilities that occur to me are the rapid weight loss that's normal at the start of a diet, and I'm also wondering whether you used the same scale both times, as that can make quite a difference.

I use the same scales, and I weigh myself at the same time every morning with no clothes on, so I know the weight of clothes isn't taken into account.

Good for you, that's the right way to do it. I'm still astonished at the 11lb loss. Any chance hormones were a factor, or is it really possible to lose this fast?

Oh yes, some people gain up to 5lb or so before or during their period, and then it drops off again as it's just water weight. It could be that you're one of those people, in which case don't panic if the scale misbehaves in a month's time. Either that or you've had a huge calorie deficit, or perhaps some other factor I haven't thought of.

Water weight is the most likely suspect. But definitely take it happily!! When it slows down always remember that regardless of how much comes off that week, you're still less than you were before and it's heading in the right direction!! Congrats!!! Keep up the great work!!

awesome job on the 11lb loss what i will say though is not to weigh yourself EVERY day because weight tends to fluxuate not only from day to day but hour to hour because of what you have eaten etc. the best thing to do is have a weigh in every week or two weeks. and perhaps because when the weightloss per week slows it can be very disheartening you should try measuring your waist etc because even though the pounds may be slowing down you may still be losing inches
good luck xxx
