You can try taking Magnesium (on its own). One capsule at bedtime and one first think in the morning (500 mg each capsule; if 250 mg, then take 2, twice a day). It takes a few days to kick in, but this really worked for me!
I'm not from the UK but was going to sggest this too. I had the same problem then realised it was because I was taking calcium tablets. The magnesium worked like a charm.

Another popular remedy is hot water with a bit of lemon juice in it, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. This is more for mild constipation, but very useful in its way, and thankfully it's easy and pleasant. I generally recommend the linseed, though, it's a very well-known one and can be taken long-term without doing any harm, unlike using laxatives such as senna.
